نجح منتخب قطر في تحقيق فوز صعب على إيران، في مباراة نصف نهائي بطولة كأس آسيا 2023 بثلاثية مقابل هدفين.

وأقيمت مواجهة قطر أمام إيران، في إطار مباريات نصف النهائي من بطولة كأس آسيا المقامة في قطر.

افتتح منتخب إيران التسجيل في الدقيقة الرابعة عن طريق سردار أزمون، ثم ردت قطر بهدفين عن طريق جاسم جابر وأكرم عفيف في الدقيقتين 17 و43.

وفي الشوط الثاني تعادل منتخب إيران مبكرًا عن طريق علي رضا جهانبخش بركلة جزاء سددها بإتقان، ثم سجل المعز علي الهدف الثاني في الدقيقة 82.

ويعتبر فوز قطر على إيران اليوم تاريخيًا إذ كان آخر انتصار للعنابي على منافسه قبل 23 عامًا، وتحديدًا في 2001.

بهذا الفوز، يصعد منتخب قطر لمواجهة الأردن في مباراة النهائي المقرر لها يوم العاشر من شهر فبراير الجاري على ملعب استاد لوسيل، في نهائي عربي خالص لبطولة كأس آسيا.

وكان منتخب إيران قد نجح في الفوز على اليابان بنتيجة 2-1، والتأهل إلى دور نصف النهائي.

Salman Butt hopes to keep knocking on the doors of the national selectors by the sheer weight of his domestic performances

Pakistan batsman Salman Butt isn’t quite sure if he will be considered for national selection just yet despite a sparkling show in the National T20 Cup, but hopes to keep knocking on the doors by the sheer weight of his performances.Butt, 31, marked his return from a five-year spot-fixing ban in September 2015 by scoring 536 at an average of 107 in National One-Day Cup last year. In the subsequent ODI tournament in April-May 2016, he managed just 135 runs in five innings. In the shortest format he hit form again, finishing the National T20 Cup as the second-highest run-getter with 350 runs in eight innings.”Since my comeback, every time I’ve done well, it has given me a good feeling,” Butt, who is set to return to first-class cricket in October, told ESPNcricinfo. “I want to carry on with these performances till I get selected, that is the ultimate goal. I don’t know if the board really want me or not, but I have two good performances. Sometimes, if the team is playing well, you can’t be fitted in, so unless someone has a bad run or if the team needs to strengthen a specific area, it will be tough. Let’s see which door opens for me, but my job is to keep fit and keep scoring runs.”Butt was 26 when he was banned in August 2010. Until then, he had played 33 Tests, 78 ODIs and 24 T20Is. Given the game has moved forward significantly following a number of tweaks to the limited-overs rules, Butt’s style of batting and his strike rate could come into question should he be considered for selection at some stage. However, Butt insisted that he had the capability to adapt.”Tests and ODIs are the two formats I can walk into, but it won’t be difficult for me to chip in with the T20 format as well,” he said. “I have the experience. This was my first competitive T20 tournament after six years, and I still managed a decent strike rate of 140 in the last three games. Sometimes it is tough to maintain your strike rate because when you see four batsmen getting out in eight deliveries, you have to hold yourself back.”I know they are a lot of people talking about my strike rate from my last game [he made a run-a-ball 55], but situation and understanding of the game is one thing and typing on social media is something else. I understand the game better than I had before.”In the time he spent away from the game, Butt has attended anti-corruption rehabilitation programmes conducted by the PCB, taken part in social work and has also issued a public apology, which was key for the reduction in his suspension – he was banned for 10, but returned after five. The reduction came on the condition that Butt would commit no further breaches of the anti-corruption code and participate in educational programmes on corruption.While reluctant to talk about his past, Butt insisted that he wanted to make the most of the second chance offered to him. “There are two ways to live: either keep thinking about the past or look forward and move on. In my best interest, I’ve chosen to move on,” he said. “Obviously I’ve taken the good things from the past and eliminated the bad ones. The difference in me is for people to see. No matter what I say or do, it won’t make much of a difference, but my actions would speak and people can form their opinions based on that.”Butt insisted the knowledge of modern-day fitness requirements helped him prepare and stay in shape during his time away. “I was training at a private facility,” he said. “I knew the kind of fitness levels required and maintained myself accordingly. Having played international cricket, I knew the kind of work ethic needed to get me back. You can’t instill passion, that has remained.”Butt, who will turn 32 next month, hopes to draw inspiration from Test captain Mibah-ul-Haq and Younis Khan. “A batsman matures in his 30s,” he said. “There are very few naturally-gifted players in their 20s. We have Misbah and Younis. If you look at Australia, they bring in their batsman in their late 20s or early 30s. So it’s about fitness. There’s no set of rules that states if you are touching 40, then it’s over.”Misbah has proved to everyone through his dedication and fitness that you can fight on at that age. If you keep working hard, then your body responds in a certain way, so it’s about being committed, like Misbah has shown.”

Joao Felix has dropped a possible hint about one day maybe playing in MLS as his future remains undecided having returned to Atletico Madrid after his loan at Chelsea.

The 22-year-old didn't quite live up to the hype in the Premier League and he leaves the Blues have picked up one red card, scored four goals, and delivered zero assists in 20 games across all competitions.

Despite that, there will likely still be a number of teams who want to sign the player as manager Diego Simeone has suggested that Felix could be off in the summer.

He told Partidazo Cope (via Goal): "It is necessary to see if economically it is good for the club. I no longer enter there. He is a boy who has qualities, who plays well, who everyone talks about and hopefully he can crush it. With us he has always had peaks, he has had bad luck with injuries."

On top of that, though, Atletico Madrid president Enrique Cerezo has stated that Chelsea won't be signing Felix permanently and so his future remains up in the air.

The Portuguese international has been active on social media recently, and the images could suggest he's keen on playing in MLS one day – even if that's not likely to happen particularly soon.

Indeed, Felix posted several photos of himself playing tennis in a Charlotte FC shirt on his Instagram page.

In the photos, the 22-year-old can be seen wearing a shirt with the name Nuno Santos on the back – he is Felix's former Benfica team-mate who now plays for Charlotte.

And so, perhaps this is just a reunion of old friends as opposed to any major transfer hint that might tell us which step the player will take next in his career.

Even so, you can never rule anything out in football. What's more, even if Felix doesn't head to America this summer, his now evident connections with MLS could mean a move might happen at some point in the future.

For now, though, it does seem more likely that he'll either remain in Madrid or find another big European club to impress at next summer.

Essien’s international teammate Derek Boateng has sung his praises, describing the former African footballer of the year as someone who “never lost form in his career.”

From a modern perspective, Caicedo mirrors many of the traits associated with the former professional, particularly his tough tackling and ability to protect the defence.

The 21-year-old ranks in the top 12% in Europe’s top five leagues among his positional peers for tackles and interceptions per 90, to emphasize his pivotal contribution to the backline.

For his age, the 30-cap international is a standout performer and has won possession in the midfield third the most times (142) of any U21 player this season.

South American football expert Tim Vickey has labelled the Ecuadorian sensation as a "terrific athlete who makes football look easy” and also hailed him as the “genuine article.”

If Caicedo continues on this frightening trajectory and his pathway to greatness, Essien’s achievements are not out of his grasp and his tenacity could make him a fan-favourite at Stamford Bridge.

Steyn and Vernon Philander, abetted by exaggerated variable bounce on a deteriorating SuperSport Park surface, set up South Africa’s first Test series win since early 2015 by ripping through New Zealand’s top order in a devastating seven-over period before lunch.Despite an impressive half-century from Henry Nicholls, New Zealand never really recovered from being 18 for 4 at lunch, and they were eventually bowled out half an hour from stumps.Steyn landed the first ball of the fourth innings in the channel outside off stump – it was wide enough for Tom Latham not to play but the extra bounce caught him unawares, and the ball clattered into the stumps off Latham’s withdrawing bat. It was the third time in three innings on this tour that Steyn had dismissed Latham.Five balls later, Martin Guptill got an unplayable outswinger: it pitched on off and swerved away to take the outside edge to Hashim Amla at first slip.The variable bounce kept troubling New Zealand. Manchester United will be hoping to put their disappointing FA Cup final defeat in the rearview mirror as they head into the summer break following a solid debut campaign under Erik ten Hag.

Not only did the Dutchman win the Old Trafford side their first trophy since 2017, but has also guided them into the Champions League group stages, and with his first season behind him, he will be aiming to take the Red Devils to the next level during 2023/24.

To do this, however, he will have to add a few more fresh faces to the squad, while shipping out some deadwood. Given that he lured players such as Lisandro Martinez and Casemiro to United last summer, there will be a similar hope that signings of this stature could be made again.

They may well raid Real Madrid once more, as United have been linked with midfielder Federico Valverde according to reports in Spain, although president Florentino Perez has claimed that it will take an offer of around €80m (£69m) in order for negotiations to begin.

The 24-year-old Uruguayan is entering the prime years of his career and has enjoyed a wonderful period of success at Madrid, winning two La Liga titles and a Champions League crown – ensuring that if he joined United, they would benefit from his winning mentality in the heart of the midfield.

Another reason why the midfielder could improve the Red Devils is his similarities to Manchester City star Ilkay Gundogan, who according to FBref, is the most comparable player to Valverde. Given the German's incredible career, in which he has won 13 major honours and become the beating heart of Pep Guardiola’s City juggernaut, it certainly isn’t a bad comparison to have.

Indeed, over the past year, Gundogan ranks in the top 10% across Europe’s big five leagues for non-penalty goals, touches in the attacking penalty area and total shots per 90, while the Uruguayan ranks in the top 10% also for non-penalty goals and total shots, while dropping to the top 21% for touches in the opposition box per game, suggesting that the pair offer an excellent goal threat from the centre of midfield overall.

This is something United could benefit from as none of their central midfielders scored more than seven goals across all of last season. Valverde showcased his importance to Madrid by ranking as their third-best player in La Liga, fifth for goals and assists and sixth for key passes per game, with Gundogan offering a similar influence at City, ranking similarly highly for the same metrics, suggesting that Ten Hag could have a world-class operator as the fulcrum of his side should he sign him this summer.

Former Chelsea star Joe Cole hailed Valverde as “unbelievable” late last year, and having showcased his abilities at the Bernabeu, a move to Old Trafford surely wouldn’t faze the 24-year-old.
