Aston Villa have had a memorable year so far, with the majority of their recent success down to the influence of manager Unai Emery.

The Spaniard arrived at Villa Park in October 2022 following the dismissal of Steven Gerrard, and has made his mark on the club in such a short period of time, telling of the highs that could still come for the Villans.

The Midlands club were sat in 16th place at the time of his arrival, ending the season with a spot in the Europa Conference league, marking their first European involvement since 2010.

Away from the pitch, the former Arsenal boss has had a terrific spell too, welcoming five new faces to his squad in the bid to bolster the quality on show for the season ahead.

While Emery and Monchi recorded a particularly successful transfer window, things have not always worked out for Villa’s signings in the past, with one name even linked with a Villa Park reunion this summer.

Purchased from Barcelona in 2015, teenage sensation Adama Traore was captured by Tim Sherwood for a figure of £7.1m, rumoured to rise to £8.6m if certain conditions were met.

The winger earned a weekly wage of £22.5k at Villa Park, with a yearly salary amounting to £1.1m, in a transfer that had those in the Midlands excited about what was to come.

At the time of his unveiling, Sherwood lauded his new signing as a “maverick-type” talent and labelled his ability with reference to other talents as being “few and far between”.

A year after his arrival, the Spaniard bid farewell to Villa after making little impact on the side, in a move that cost the club almost £9m when considering his transfer and wage fees in the period.

Was he worth that much?

The summer after his arrival, Traore left Villa after making just 12 appearances for the side during the season that saw them relegated from the top flight.

In that period, the Spaniard scored once in the League Cup, falling out of favour with new manager Remi Garde who branded the winger as a “problem” for his inability to stick to tactical demands and remain consistent in his performance.

His 12 appearances over his year stay amounted to Villa paying him around £91k per game, to which he made no impact and subsequently left Villa Park so shortly after his arrival.

This summer, it was rumoured that Villa were eyeing a move to bring the former Barcelona talent back to the club after his contract with Wolves expired, however the 27-year-old opted for Fulham instead.

Following his exit from the claret and blues, Traore went on to make 197 appearances in the Premier League, and counting, however has only netted 10 goals during that time, telling of Villa’s correct decision to sell him.

Poor discipline and inconsistency drove the Midlands side to no option but to offload him, in what was a smart move with the player described as the “most frustrating player a manager could have” by Jason Cundy on talkSPORT earlier this year.

While the Spaniard cost Villa a hefty amount with regard to his contribution, the Villans will be reassured of their decision to sell him at the time to ensure he didn’t rinse the club any further.

Former New Zealand pace bowler Simon Doull wants drastic changes in the New Zealand T20 set-up, including the replacement of the captain and coach. Doull said the current T20 squad had too many Test players, and stated that captain Kane Williamson shouldn’t be in the side unless he opens.”I don’t think we are getting the selections right. I’ve had some concerns for a while,” Doull told . “If Kane Williamson doesn’t open in T20, he shouldn’t be playing. His record opening is very good – at three and four, it’s not that great. But he shouldn’t be in the T20 side, there’s a lot who shouldn’t be in the T20 side.”Williamson has scores of 8, 9 and 0 from his last three T20 internationals and the last knock of 8 against Australia came from 21 balls while batting at No. 3 in Sydney last week. In his last 11 T20I innings over the last 12 months, Williamson crossed 30 only once and had a strike rate of 100.54 and average of 18.60.Doull was not critical of the team’s performances under Hesson but was wary of how the current cricket calendar was hardly giving the coach any time off. He also suggested that finding a younger replacement for Hesson, who is 43, only for the T20 side could help bring about an overall change in approach in the shortest format. Since the beginning of last year, New Zealand are fifth among the current Test-playing nations, with a win-loss ratio of 1.17 after Pakistan, India, South Africa and West Indies.”He’s a great coach who has done an amazing job, and has really grown into the job,” Doull said. “But he gets very little time off, only a small amount of time with his family. Give him T20 completely off, get a new coach, new ideas, a new bunch of players.”[The coach] probably needs to have played the [T20] game to understand it a bit better. The Northern Knights [winners of this season’s Super Smash] had Gareth Hopkins solely as their T20 coach and he had played until recently. The rest of the coaches around the country are a bit older, out of touch with T20.”Doull, who has been a leading commentator for several years now, called for injecting more dynamism in the existing structure for the shortest format. He said senior batsman and limited-overs specialist Martin Guptill would “relish the captaincy and responsibility” if he was asked to take over the reins from Wiiliamson. In addition, he suggested that Colin de Grandhomme be promoted up the order and that Anton Devcich, Mark Chapman and Tim Seifert be given an opportunity ahead of Ross Taylor and Tim Southee.”I would like to see Colin de Grandhomme batting higher but it is the selections, not the batting order [which is the problem]. We want dynamic players and should be giving them an opportunity at T20 level.”At the SCG, in the opening T20 of the Trans-Tasman Trophy, New Zealand had managed only 117 for 9, after a 24-ball 38 from de Grandhomme relatively revived the team from 60 for 5.

كما أكد خالد بيبو، مدير الكرة بـ الأهلي، على انضمام اللاعبين الدوليين للبرنامج التدريبي للقلعة الحمراء، غدًا الخميس، بعدما حصلوا على راحة سلبية لمدة 48 ساعة، عقب انتهاء معسكر منتخب مصر لتفادي الإجهاد والإصابات، في ظل ضغط مباريات الفريق في الفترة القادمة.

وأوضح بيبو أن أحمد جاب الله طبيب الأهلي، حصل على التقرير الطبي والبدني للاعبين الدوليين عقب انتهاء معسكر منتخب مصر، وذلك في ظل التنسيق القائم بين الجهاز الطبي في الأهلي ونظيره في المنتخب، من أجل الاطمئنان على حالة اللاعبين البدنية والطبية.

وأضاف مدير الكرة بالأهلي أن جميع اللاعبين سوف يخضعون لفحص طبي مع انتظامهم في التدريبات غدًا، لمزيد من الاطمئنان على حالاتهم.

يذكر، أن الأهلي يحتل المركز الثامن في جدول ترتيب الدوري المصري، ولديه في رصيده 33 نقطة بعدما فاز بـ10 لقاءات والتعادل في 3 مواجهات وتلقى هزيمتين.

Over the summer, Tony Mowbray’s side were busy in the market having brought in 11 fresh faces on both a loan and permanent basis, with the most notable players putting pen to paper being the likes of Jobe Bellingham, Bradley Dack and Nazariy Rusyn, but there were also plenty of outgoings.

In terms of departures, Ross Stewart, Lynden Gooch and Danny Batth were the three biggest names to complete exits, whilst youngsters like Elliot Embleton and Alex Bass were sent out on the road temporarily in order to gain some much-needed senior experience, as per Transfermarkt.

Whilst nobody else can now leave until the new year with the transfer deadline having passed, Tom Watson is a player who is already being eyed up having made just one first-team appearance during his time in the northeast, having found it difficult to force his way into the manager's plans.

O confronto

O Guarani começou o jogo com o pé no acelerador. Com 4 minutos, Lucas Crispim aproveitou o cruzamento e desviou para o fundo da rede. Aos 17 minutos, Waguinho se antecipou em novo levantamento e aumento a vantagem.

O CRB voltou para o jogo com Diego Torres. O argentino soltou uma bomba de fora da área e balançou a rede campineira.

Antes do intervalo o Galo teve a chance do empate. Calazans arriscou, o goleiro defendeu e na sobra Diego Torres cabeceou. Com agilidade, Gabriel Mesquita salvou o Bugre.

Na etapa final o CRB tentava envolveu o Guarani, mas não conseguia concluir as jogadas. Por outro lado, o Bugre assustou na bola parada com Giovanny.

O alívio do Guarani veio nos minutos finais. Após pênalti de Ewerton Páscoa em Lucas Abreu, Arthur Rezende soltou o pé para vencer o goleiro, 3 a 1.

Mohammad Nabi is to join Leicestershire as an overseas player for their 2018 T20 campaign.Nabi, the veteran Afghanistan allrounder, is a vastly experienced white-ball cricketer with more than 150 international appearances behind him. He is currently placed at No. 11 in the ICC ODI bowling rankings and 22nd in the T20I rankings. He is third in both the ODI and T20I allrounder ratings.As well as his experience in international cricket, Nabi features regularly in T20 leagues around the world. He recently represented Melbourne Renegades in the Big Bash and will play for Sunrisers Hyderabad in this year’s IPL. He has previously played club cricket in England.Leicestershire had already announced the signing of Pakistan’s Mohammad Abbas as their other overseas player in the T20 competition.”I know all about Mohammad Nabi’s qualities in the game,” Paul Nixon, Leicestershire head coach, said. “He can make a huge impact in our middle order and is an offbreak bowler who operates with great control and skill.”Nabi has a brilliant white-ball record for Afghanistan and in T20 competitions around the world. The duo helped the hosts register an eight-wicket victory – their first in this home season – against England, who suffered their second straight loss ahead of the final against Australia on March 31.Smashing her fifth half-century in six matches, Mandhana helped raze down India’s 108-run target with 26 balls to spare. Mithali Raj labored to a 15-ball six before lobbing a dolly to Alice Davidson-Richards at mid-off.England’s lacklustre effort with the ball began with Tash Farrant conceding nine runs off the opening over of the chase. Mandhana, meanwhile, flayed left-arm medium-pacer Katie George for three consecutive fours in the second over before being dropped on 13 by Tammy Beaumont off the sixth delivery.Mandhana then put on a resounding display, piercing the point and cover-point gap with precision, peppering the square leg boundary and plundering the covers with delectable accuracy.
