Newcastle United are enjoying plenty of success at the moment, but one "excellent" fan favourite has been urged to "find a new club" while on international duty this week.
Newcastle form and fixtures
The Magpies may have made a disappointing start to their Premier League season in 2023/24, in what was an admittedly a tough run of games, but they have overcome that blip in highly impressive fashion.
A legendary 4-1 win at home to Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League and impressive victories against Sheffield United and Burnley have corrected their form, while they also knocked Manchester City out of the EFL Cup. Next up comes home clashes with Crystal Palace and Dortmund before visits to Wolves and Man United in the league and cup respectively.
This is a formidable Newcastle squad that Eddie Howe has built, with the likes of Sandro Tonali, Harvey Barnes and Tino Livramento added to the squad during the summer transfer window, and there are important players everywhere you look.
There are some individuals who aren't earning as much game time as they would like, however, which could lead to them looking for a move away in the near future, potentially when the January transfer window opens.
One of those is Martin Dubravka, who has had to accept that he is now very much playing second fiddle to Nick Pope between the sticks.

Newcastle transfer news – Martin Dubvraka
Speaking to Sport24.sk [via Sport Witness], former Slovakia attacker Robert Vittek has urged Newcastle goalkeeper Dubravka to leave Newcastle, as he looks to enjoy more regular football elsewhere:
“With his performance against Portugal, he certainly caught the attention of several interesting clubs. If he doesn’t get an opportunity at Newcastle, I wish him to find a club in January where he will play regularly.
In truth, it makes complete sense for Dubravka to look for a fresh challenger sooner rather than later, having already spent a spell on loan at Manchester United last season.
The 34-year-old's squad status seems unlikely to change moving forward so Dubravka leaving Newcastle would still be the right outcome for all parties moving forward, with Pope such a key man in goal for Magpies.
That's not say that he can't be a success elsewhere, with Dubravka called "excellent" by Tom Heaton, who said of his fellow 'keeper back in 2020:
"I don't think he is underrated at all, actually. He has had an excellent season. He has been good for Newcastle over a long period of time now and and he has been a massive part of their unbeaten run.
"Some of his saves have been excellent, his all round-game has been really impressive. Certainly from my point of view he hasn't been underrated, but whether the wider public don't give him enough credit, possibly."
Dubravka's stats speak for themselves in his career, with a tally 34 caps for Slovakia coming his way, and while allowing him a route out of the club would be the right decision by Newcastle, there's no question fans will remember that debut against Man United for a long time.
Ireland avoided a third-straight loss in the tournament after beating Scotland by 46 runs in Deventer

A trio of half-centuries from Paul Stirling, Andy Balbirnie and captain Gary Wilson propelled Ireland to a 46-run win over Scotland at Deventer, Ireland’s first win of the T20 tri-series after losing two straight to the Netherlands at Rotterdam.Ireland posted their joint third-highest total in T20Is in making 205 for 5 after choosing to bat first. Of the three totals that were equal or better than Saturday’s effort, a common thread has been the excellence of Stirling and Wilson. Both batsmen scored a half-century in 200+ scores made in separate matches against Afghanistan while both crossed 50 the last time they played Scotland as well when the Irish made 211 for 6 in the semi-final of the Desert T20 Challenge in January 2017 in Dubai.Behind Stirling’s hot start, Ireland raced to 76 for 2 in seven overs when he finally was caught off the bowling of Michael Leask. Ireland’s run rate never dipped below nine during the entire innings. Balbirnie entered the match with a career-best of 31 in 10 T20Is but more than doubled it against Scotland, combining for a pair of half-century stands – first with Stirling and later with Wilson, who fell in the final over just after helping Ireland past 200.Just like Scotland’s performance on Tuesday in the first T20I against Pakistan at the Grange, they kept the required run rate in check during the Powerplay behind a confident reply constructed by captain Kyle Coetzer and George Munsey. The pair added 65 but once Coetzer was dismissed by George Dockrell in the seventh over, the wheels fell off of the chase. Munsey was caught for a top score of 41 in Dockrell’s next over before spin continued to make inroads in the middle overs of the chase. Calum MacLeod fell to Stirling’s part-time offspin while Richie Berrington was caught by Dockrell off the spin of Simi Singh to make it 130 for 4, leaving the middle order 76 to get off 25 balls. Scotland never came close to threatening the target and eventually ended on 159 for 5.
Leeds United have recruited well this summer after a number of players departed Elland Road in the wake of relegation from the Premier League.
They waved goodbye to Tyler Adams on a permanent transfer to AFC Bournemouth whilst faces such as Brenden Aaronson, Jack Harrison, and Luis Sinisterra have all left temporarily on loan moves with their own level deemed higher than the cut and thrust of the Championship.
Out with the underperformers that caused Leeds to fall through the relegation trapdoor, and in with new fresh blood who are giving their all in a Whites shirt so far – signings such as Joel Piroe stick out, the ex-Swansea striker opting to join Leeds over reuniting with ex-manager Russell Martin at Southampton and netting seven in the process.
Leeds forward Joel Piroe.
Ethan Ampadu and Joel Rodon have also ensured Leeds have a sense of solidity at the back, the leakiness that cost Leeds a Premier League spot – conceding 78 goals last season as the Whites crashed to relegation – is a thing of the past.
Daniel Farke's side have only shipped 13 from 12 matches played, sitting pretty in 3rd spot in the Championship as it stands.
Yet, when you delve deeper into other transfer windows in recent memory, they have not all been successful. The 2017-18 transfer window in particular saw the Whites purchase Jay-Roy Grot, a player who ultimately failed to make the grade at Elland Road.
How much did Leeds United sign Jay-Roy Grot for?
Reportedly joining Leeds for a fee of £750k in 2017 from NEC Nijmegen in the Netherlands, the then 19-year-old struggled to adjust to the demands of English football from the get-go.
He would find it tough, going from a promising striker in the Eredivisie who had scored five goals from 20 matches played in his final season with NEC, to then having to find his feet in a demanding league in the Championship for an expectant Leeds United fanbase.
It would lead to the Dutch attacker not finding the back of the net for Leeds until March 2018 after putting pen on paper to join the club in August 2017, the 6 foot 5 striker scoring in a 2-1 home defeat to Sheffield Wednesday.
This would be his only goal in Leeds colours, shipped out on loan continually after his one solitary campaign at Elland Road until he would depart permanently in 2021 – relocating back to his native Netherlands with VVV-Venlo and Vitesse on loan, before joining VfL Osnabrück in Germany on a free transfer.
How has Jay-Roy Grot performed since leaving Leeds?
The Dutch striker, who has matured since leaving Leeds behind, has managed to turn his career around after a nightmare stop-off in West Yorkshire.
He has actually managed to outscore Patrick Bamford since the start of the 2022/23 campaign, owing to a fruitful campaign out in Denmark with Viborg FF.
Leeds striker Patrick Bamford.
Jay-Roy Grot's numbers in the Superliga for Viborg during the 2022-23 season saw the Dutchman net nine goals from 19 matches played, scoring in four games on the trot to close out the season in style for his Danish employers at the time.
Contrast that with Bamford's goalscoring output in that same season – the 30-year-old dud scoring four times from 28 Premier League matches – the 25-year-old former Leeds man has had one last laugh.
It's even resulted in Jay-Roy Grot moving out to Japan to add another unconventional club to his resume, playing his football now for Kashiwa Reysol, whom he has three goals for to date. Meanwhile, the Leeds man is yet to get off the mark this season.
A forgotten man now around Elland Road, Jay-Roy Grot has managed to turn his career since departing a turbulent Whites side and has proven he can score goals across the world in eccentric new locations.

Johann Myburgh hit a blistering hundred•Getty Images
Johann Myburgh, the Somerset batsman, has announced he will retire at the end of the season. He initially joined the club on a one-year deal in 2014 but was then retained. Last week he struck his maiden T20 century, off 42 balls, against Essex. He wrote an open letter to the Somerset team and the supporters thanking them for his time at the club.”What a special place this has been for me and I have felt so at home here in Taunton. My boy Joshua was born at Musgrove Park Hospital and I’m convinced that I now have Somerset blood pumping in my veins,” he said.Talking T20 Podcast: About time Rikki Clarke replaced Stokes?

“My team-mates have of course played a massive role in my enjoyable time here in the South West. I have made friendships that will last forever, seen young boys turn into men and enjoyed the inner child in the seasoned guys. I want to take this opportunity to thank you all for the great times both on and off the field and more importantly, for accepting me into your changing room and making it ours.”Myburgh had been highly rated as a youngster growing up in South Africa. In 1998, as a 17-year-old schoolboy, he broke Graeme Pollock’s record to become the youngest double-centurion in South African first-class cricket and played for South Africa U-19s alongside the likes of Graeme Smith and Jacques Rudolph. However, he then moved to New Zealand with the aim of going through the three-year qualification period to be eligible for them but as he came close to completing it he then opted for a Kolpak move to the county game where he joined Hampshire in 2010. In 2012 he had a T20 contract with Durham then after a year of club cricket joined Somerset.Andy Hurry, Somerset’s director of cricket, said: “During his time with the county, Johann has been a key member of the Somerset family. Not only is he an outstanding cricketer and athlete, he is a gentleman, a leader and a friend to all associated with the Club.”He is an outstanding role model and mentor, and our young players will have taken much from his experience over the years. He has taken the decision to retire whilst he is still enjoying the game, as well as positively influencing matches as he showed last week with his exceptional innings against Essex Eagles.”I feel privileged to have worked with Johann and I am certain that whatever he does next he will approach with the same passion and professionalism that he has demonstrated during his years here. Everyone associated with the Club wishes him and his family the very best for the future.”

–> CONFIRA A TABELA DO BRASILEIRÃO

Leeds United have answered back convincingly to a minority of critics at Elland Road that expected the Whites would continue to struggle after a slow start to Championship life, Daniel Farke’s side stamping their authority on the division last time out in an impressive 1-0 win away at Leicester City.
Only losing one game from their opening 14 before Leeds came to town, the Foxes were humbled by the Whites on the night with Georginio Rutter scoring the decisive strike.
Leeds forward Georginio Rutter.
The ex-Hoffenheim man has stepped up to the mark for his team since their relegation down to the Championship, leading the line effectively in a feared attack often consisting of Joel Piroe, Crysencio Summerville and Dan James directly behind him.
Yet, Sam Greenwood is currently outperforming the French attacker out on loan with Middlesbrough – the former Arsenal youth player yet to really be given an opportunity in west Yorkshire.
Greenwood will just keep plugging away at the Riverside Stadium at this moment in time, whilst Rutter focuses on continuing to star under Farke’s guidance.
Rutter’s numbers this season
Deployed not just as an out-and-out poacher who instinctively finishes off chances, Rutter’s strengths also revolve around his ability to create opportunities for his teammates to fire home.
Leeds forward Georginio Rutter.
Leeds’ number 24 has more assists than he has goals so far this season, assisting five times whilst only scoring three from 14 played.
It was his display at Millwall away back in September that first got Leeds fans waxing lyrical about their 21-year-old hot prospect, charging through unmarked to assist Piroe for the first goal of the contest at the Den.
He would rub salt into the Millwall wound with a goal of his own late on to give Farke’s men a deserved 3-0 victory, firing a fierce effort into the back of the net after a deflected pass fortuitously found its way to him.
With Leeds sharing the goals around in attack – Piroe and Summerville fighting it out for the top goal scorer bragging rights with five and six respectively – Rutter is excelling more as a creative spark but he can score crucial goals when called upon.
Greenwood is also performing well in a creative role at Middlesbrough, playing predominantly as a winger under new boss Michael Carrick.
Greenwood’s numbers this season
Since making the switch in the summer to Teesside on loan, Greenwood has seen his first-team experience at senior level increase with Boro – making 12 appearances in total for Carrick’s men so far, after his minutes at Leeds had been cut.
The 21-year-old has three goals to his name in those 12 appearances – all of which have come in his last – including a strike last time out to help his team salvage a share of the points away at Plymouth Argyle in an electric 3-3 contest.
Leeds United forward Sam Greenwood.
As a result, Greenwood is currently outperforming Rutter in front of goal, despite being away from Elland Road – finding the back of the net at a faster rate than his counterpart.
The tricky winger was a standout performer down in Devon, winning eight of his 15 ground duels per Sofascore on top of scoring one of his three on target attempts.
Praised from a young age within the Leeds Academy structure – football journalist Noel Whelan calling the 21-year-old “immense" after a James Ward-Prowse style free-kick hit the back of net in 2021 whilst featuring for the Whites – Greenwood will surely get more opportunities at Elland Road when this loan deal expires.
The 5 foot 11 attacker, who has been capped at England U21 level, would give Farke another dynamic option in attack with the German head coach spoilt for choice already without the addition of Greenwood to his plans.
