And to make matters worse, they lost forward Matheus Cunha to an injury in the first half. The Brazilian reported a hamstring complaint before leaving the field, and O'Neil was cautious with his update despite the player's optimism.

“With Cunha it’s too early to tell, he felt something in his hamstring. He seems to think he doesn't feel too bad at this moment. But sometimes it can feel like that and be bad and sometimes they can feel bad and not be too bad.

“So let's try not to guess and let’s wait until the medical team come back with some really accurate pictures on it and hopefully we can get them both back available as soon as possible.”

O'Neil had been looking forward to unleashing a fully-fit squad before the Brentford game as Hwang Hee-chan returned from the Asian Cup with South Korea, but Hwang missed the match with a minor issue and now Cunha could face a spell out.

Speaking to GiveMeSport, reporter Dean Jones reacted to O'Neil's Cunha injury update, warning it could be a "disaster" for the manager after the player's headline-grabbing performances of late. He did, however, point out that Wolves currently sit in a pressure-free 11th place, a full 13 points clear of the relegation zone.

"It would be a disaster for Wolves to lose Cunha because he has been unbelievable. I think he is one of the most underrated players in the Premier League. I know he has been getting a few more headlines because the goals have started to come recently but, even before that, you could see that he was head and shoulders above everyone on the field at times due to his technical ability.

"Losing a player of that quality is very significant for Wolves. But there will be relief, from their point of view, that they are at least in a very comfortable position in the league at the moment. This could have been a lot worse if they were stranded towards the bottom end of the Premier League, like many people expected they would be."

In terms of end product, Cunha got off to a pretty slow start this season after his £35m move from Atletico Madrid was made permanent in the summer, scoring only two goals in his first 12 appearances. Nominated for the Premier League's Player of the Month award for December, he soared into the top 10 in the division's goal involvement charts and matched Liverpool's Darwin Nunez, Man City's Phil Foden and Chelsea's Cole Palmer.

واستكمل: “غرفة الملابس كانت مليئة بالنجوم، كانت توجد ثقافة الفردية قبل حضوري، كان كل لاعب يفكر في نفسه قبل الفريق، هذا ما تم تغييره”.

وأردف: “الثقافة التي كانت متواجدة في الأهلي إنه على أرضنا نهاجم وخارج أرضنا ندافع، لكن أنا خلقت طريقة لعب 3-4-3 وأن نقوم بالضغط والهجوم في أي مكان نلعب فيه، وأتدخل من خلال التغييرات لتغيير طريقة اللعب”.

وتطرق جوزيه للحديث عن محمد أبو تريكة لاعب الأهلي السابق، قائلًا: “كان لاعبًا ممتازًا، تعاقدت معه من الترسانة، هو كان يريد أن يلعب أساسيًا منذ قدومه، تحدثت معه وكنت واثقًا في إمكانياته”.

وأكمل: “بعد خروجه من الترسانة بالتأكيد كان صغيرًا وليس بحجم الأهلي، لأن الأهلي كبير وأفضل ناد في إفريقيا، واستطاع أن يتحول إلى أفضل لاعب في مصر وإفريقيا”.

وأتم: “أبو تريكة تصرف معي بشكل لم أفهمه، أنا اعتزلت التدريب وهو اعتزل اللعب، لم يحاول أن يتصل بي ولم يرد على اتصالاتي، اتصلت به كتيرًا ولم يرد، لم أعرف السبب، رغم أن علاقتي به كانت جيدة”.

James Maddison arrived in the summer to spark new levels of invention while Brennan Johnson and – in January – Timo Werner have strengthened the frontline.

Still, the search for a striker goes on, with a fresh face likely to be welcomed at the end of the campaign.

Hojlund – who was also believed to be one of their number 1 targets – is young in his career but he has the trappings of a high-class player down the line, having started to grow into his skin considerably over these past few months.

Man United desperately needed a new centre-forward last summer and opted to take something of a punt on Hojlund, who had scored nine goals from 20 starts in his sole Serie A campaign, and despite a slow start, the 21-year-old does appear to be edging toward constancy in his goalscoring efforts.

Indeed, while the Denmark international plundered four goals in the Red Devils' ignominious Champions League group phase, he blanked across his opening 14 Premier League matches, though scorn concerning his profligacy has been ripped up after his recent efforts.

A recent muscular injury has stifled the rising star as he clicks into destructive gear, but Hojlund has now conquered his lack of confidence and looks set for a rich career of prolificness.

His innate predatory instinct is not going to crumble away and Tottenham must watch his goalscoring feats wistfully, given that he would have been the perfect focal point to spearhead Postecoglou's project.

Hojlund's seven-goal haul since the turn of the calendar year marks a return that denotes his credentials as a world-class forward in the future, and given that this tally surpasses Kane's in 2024, Spurs supporters can see the level of ability Hojlund has at his feet.

Kane, in fairness, is hardly flattering to deceive with six strikes from eight matches, but if Hojlund is now able to use his recent purple patch as the launchpad for a fruitful Red Devils career, he might just sit alongside Scandinavian counterpart Erling Haaland as the striking touchstone.

Regarding Kane, the 6 foot 3 Hojlund is certainly not cut from the same cloth but was described as a "unique rough diamond" by the MEN's Samuel Luckhurst after making the move to Manchester, with qualities that make him the perfect fit for any ambitious Premier League outfit seeking success at the forefront.

Described as a “monster in the making” by talent scout Jacek Kulig, the £80k-per-week sharpshooter also thrives through his weaving movement and adroit dribbling, stretching backlines and almost preternaturally recognising opportunities unseen to the blinkered vision of most.

Of course, with the likes of Son and James Maddison supplementing him, he would find the steady source of creativity that he has not quite been provided with at Old Trafford.

In fairness, Richarlison is proving that he can hit veins of form to match the recent success of Manchester United's talisman, who remains untested for a sustained period in the Premier League, but there's no denying Hojlund's prodigious attacking ability.

The stability, collective strength and need for a new talisman would have made the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium an exciting stomping ground for the Dane to have moved to, but now it does look like he will ply his trade at the Theatre of Dreams over the coming years.

Postecoglou and Levy work well together and there will be confidence that the right player will be signed come summer, but Hojlund has started to show his quality of late and it might go down as a rueful missed opportunity.

The second season of the Afghanistan Premier League (APL) has been postponed to 2020 after the league’s commercial partner failed to pay the Afghanistan Cricket Board (ACB) rights money. The ACB has terminated the agreement, also citing concerns about the integrity of people associated with Snixer Sports, the partners. The tournament had been scheduled for October this year.”The failure by Snixer Sports to pay the complete rights fees of the first edition as per the fees and payment schedule of the agreement, and concerns about risks for integrity of the league posed by people connected to Snixer Sports are the reasons for termination that form material breaches of the agreement,” the ACB said in a statement.The allegation around the integrity of the people involved is especially pertinent, given the talk swirling around the league in its first season. Mohammad Shahzad reported an approach and it was one of the leagues the ICC’s ACU was keeping an especially close eye on: there were, it is understood, a number of other approaches made that were reported by players to the anti-corruption body.The ACB has written to the Attorney General’s Office of the Government of Afghanistan to “fully investigate the administrative allegations of corruption in the league” and that it remained committed to “ensuring transparency in all its affairs and is accountable to all stakeholders.”Following the signing of the tournament’s MoU in January last year, the first edition of the league was held between October 5 and 21 in Sharjah, UAE and featured a host of international names. Chris Gayle, Shahid Afridi, Andre Russell, Brendon McCullum and Rashid Khan were picked as icon players by the five franchises, representing Paktia, Kabul, Balkh, Nangarhar and Kandahar.A tender for commercial rights to the second season of the league will be issued in due course.The league is the second T20 league to run into problems in as many months. Despite making 15 appearances for Arsenal last season, Lokonga was loaned out in the summer to Premier League newcomers, Luton Town.

Since then, he has appeared a total of 14 times for Rob Edwards' side and has managed to assist his teammates a total of two times, even recently receiving praise from Jurgen Klopp for his form away from the Emirates.

Equally, in ten of the squad's last 11 top-flight games, Lokonga has played the full 90 minutes a total of five times. This not only shows how much has developed whilst being with the Hatters, but it also shows that Edwards sees potential in the youngster.

It's a major change from the start of the season where, in Luton's first ten Premier League games, the midfielder was left out of the squad for eight of them, with injury yet again playing its part.

However, despite his clear advancements on the pitch, there is another Arsenal loanee who is currently creating waves in the footballing world whom Arteta should consider unleashing next season – that player being Charlie Patino.

Why Charlie Patino is perfect for Arteta's system

Patino has been with Arsenal since he was 11 years old, when he was signed from Luton for a fee in the region of £10k.

Since then, he has made his senior debut for the Gunners in the Carabao Cup back in December 2021, in what was quite a memorable first senior outing.

The youngster managed to slot a goal past Sunderland in the quarter-finals of the competition and helped Arteta's side in their 5-1 win.

In the following two seasons, Patino has been loaned out to the Championship and represented both Blackpool and Swansea.

However, it's during his spell in Wales that he has seen the most improvement. He has become pivotal to the squad and has played a total of 29 games and has contributed to four goals and four assists in all competitions.

Respected data analyst Ben Mattinson has even claimed that the youngster would "explode in Arteta's system." With the current form that the 20-year-old finds himself in, it wouldn't be a surprise to see the thriving youngster unleashed in Arsenal's first team next season.

With competition for places rife in Arteta's midfield ranks, this promotion for Patino could, however, leave Lokonga without a spot in the squad and staring down the barrel of a temporary or permanent exit this summer…
