As Leeds United aim to go one better than last season by earning promotion to the Premier League, they are pushing to add a player to Daniel Farke's squad who technical director Gretar Steinsson is reportedly a big fan of.

Since falling at the final hurdle in the Championship's play-off final, Leeds' biggest task has been keeping hold of star players such as Crysencio Summerville. The winger enjoyed an excellent campaign last time out, scoring a sensational 21 goals and providing a further 10 assists in all competitions to attract the interest of the likes of Chelsea, Liverpool and Newcastle United.

As things stand, however, Summerville remains a Leeds player and someone who will undoubtedly play a large part in their hunt for promotion once again next season, should he stay put. If the Whites do manage to keep hold of the Dutchman, then adding further attacking depth around him will be crucial, which is where one particular target could come in.

According to Graeme Bailey speaking to Leeds United News, Leeds are still pushing to sign Daniel Jebbison this summer. Bailey said: "That one is ongoing. We know it is someone who Steinsson likes a lot so we will see where we go with that one, but Leeds are still very much in contention.”

Any deal will be an instant bargain thanks to Jebbison's free-agent status following the end of his Sheffield United contract last season. Still just 20 years old, the forward would add depth to Farke's frontline and may even come back to haunt his former side next season after the Blades were relegated from the Premier League in the last campaign.

"Great" Jebbison has plenty of potential

Whilst he saw his chances limited last season, Jebbison is still the youngest player in Premier League history to score on his first start, having netted against Everton in the 2020/21 campaign. Now, three years later, he has the chance to take that clear potential elsewhere and towards Elland Road, with Leeds seemingly hopeful of helping the young forward reach his best.

If the previous praise of Sheffield United coach Jack Lester is anything to go by too, then it's no surprise that Steinsson is a fan of Jebbison. Lester said via Yorkshire Live: "Daniel’s doing great. He had a bit of a stop start one with his injuries. People forget that he’ll still be a teenager at the start of next season so he’s developing really well. He’s got some fantastic physical attributes and we will continue to work to develop him."

In a risk-free move which doesn't involve a transfer fee, Steinsson will be among those hoping to get a deal over the line for the former Sheffield United gem this summer. Whilst it's not a deal that will steal the headlines, it is one that would add further depth to Farke's attack next season.

Big pictureThe first ODI was an exciting one for the neutrals, and everyone looking for a competitive series, but it’s best to a bit cautious if anyone feels that the close finish has set a template of sorts for the remaining two games. The difference was 26 runs in that game, and what will gut Zimbabwe the most about not getting over the line was that they had in front of them an off-colour Pakistan for much of the game. It’s hard to believe Pakistan won’t alter their approach, particularly with the bat, and while Babar Azam’s side have a few more gears to go through, it isn’t quite clear if Zimbabwe do, too.While Chamu Chibhabha’s men ran Pakistan close and, at one stage, were arguably favourites to come up trumps, that they failed to do so is emblematic of one of the challenges they face. Success breeds success, and Zimbabwe have had so little of it lately, they might have lacked the self-belief to see themselves over the finish line. That happens to Zimbabwe not infrequently, and while pushing Pakistan hard away from home deserves nothing but plaudits, in the World Super League, results matter, and yesterday’s did not take Zimbabwe any closer to automatic world Cup qualification.For Pakistan, the signs in the first ODI weren’t too promising. Shaheen Afridi looks like a generational talent, but that was already known. The problem is that, as they start the next four-year cycle in ODI cricket, there is no evidence they are being coached, or indeed captained, to adopt the sort of approach the elite ODI teams look for. There was the same caution that Misbah-ul-Haq has favoured over anything resembling bold or innovative. In the spotlightPakistan’s top order was far too cautious in the first powerplay, and that sluggishness seemed to set the tempo. Captain Babar Azam has promised more positivity, and whether Abid Ali opens alongside Imam-ul-Haq, or the more enterprising Fakhar Zaman does, would be interesting to see. It sets up a fascinating contest between a group of batsmen under pressure to break out of their conservative shell, and a bowling line-up well aware they may be challenged more seriously next time. Don’t be surprised if we all look back on it later as the decisive passage of the game.Sean Williams was in the form of his life last year, with two of his three career hundreds coming in a 13-ODI spell that saw him average a shade under 70, and he was going strong even as Brendan Taylor’s form faded. On Friday, however, he looked distinctly uncomfortable during his short, troubled stay at the crease, perhaps the weakest link of the Zimbabwean batting order on the day. Williams doesn’t have the best record against Pakistan; he last made a half-century against this opposition 12 years and 11 matches ago, in Multan in 2008. Having finished fifth in the Premier League, narrowly missing out on Champions League football by two points, Ange Postecoglou will be looking to strengthen his side ready for next season in the hopes of achieving top four.

Despite Tottenham scoring four more goals last season than in the 2022/23 season, since the loss of Harry Kane, they have missed that G/A output at the top of the pitch. Whilst Son Heung-min did provide 17 goals and ten assists last season, Spurs began to miss that one-two-punch combo of Kane and Son.

With Son often playing as the striker now, it leaves a hole at left wing for Spurs to add a direct attacking threat, who can create and score goals as Son did from that left side when partnered with Kane.

Tottenham transfer news

According to Paul O'Keefe, Tottenham are showing a 'firm interest' in Desire Doue, whilst also retaining an interest in Wolves star Pedro Neto.

Doue has received interest from many top Premier League clubs, including Arsenal and Newcastle United, as well as, of course, Tottenham.

The 19-year-old winger broke onto the scene in the 2022/23 season and has continued to impress for Stade Rennais this season in Ligue 1, scoring four goals and providing five assists in 31 appearances.

How Doue compares to Lamine Yamal

When looking at Doue's FBref page, the "similar players" feature lists Barcelona starlet Lamine Yamal as a similar player to Doue.

Now, whilst these players tend to operate on opposite wings, Yamal – who has lit up Euro 2024 with Spain – often starts on the right for Barcelona, and Doue often starts off the left for Rennes, both players possess that 1v1 quality.

Yamal excels in ball-carrying metrics, averaging 5.02 progressive carries per 90, completing 3.01 successful take-ons per 90, and completing 3.05 carries into the final third per 90.

Doue is right there with him, averaging 4.38 progressive carries per 90, completing 3.42 successful take-ons per 90, and completing 4.20 carries into the final third.

The direct nature of these wingers, ability to carry the ball and beat their man often creates chances for their sides. However, where Yamal has the upper hand over Doue is with his final ball and creative decision-making.

The 16-year-old scored seven goals and provided ten assists for Barcelona last season, making 50 appearances for the club. He also produces an xAG (expected assisted goals) of 0.27 per 90, and 4.44 shot-creating actions per 90.

Doue in comparison, had four goals and six assists in all competitions last season. He also only produced 0.19 xAG per 90, but did create 4.49 shots-creating actions per 90. This tells us the Rennes star can often get into these areas, but his numbers are hindered by a mixture of a lower quality of attacking teammates (finishing chances he creates), and a slightly less consistent final ball to Yamal.

Doue is a "special" talent, as mentioned by Zach Lowy, and a player with this sort of "X-factor" can take a massive jump when put into a side that gives them even more opportunities in the attacking third to work their magic.

أدى الفريق الأول لكرة القدم بـ الزمالك تدريباته الجماعية مساء اليوم الاثنين على ستاد الكلية الحربية، استعدادًا لمواجهة مودرن سبورت، ضمن منافسات الدوري المصري.

الزمالك كان قد استهل مشواره في بطولة الدوري المصري للموسم الحالي، بالفوز على سيراميكا كليوباترا 2-0، ثم تعادل في لقاء الجولة الثانية مع المقاولون العرب سلبيًا.

وأدى لاعبو الفريق الأول لكرة القدم بنادي الزمالك “البدلاء والمستبعدين” من مباراة المقاولون العرب الأخيرة في مسابقة الدوري، تدريبات بدنية قوية خلال مران اليوم.

وبعد ذلك خاضت هذه المجموعة تدريبات فنية وخططية استعداداً للمباراة المقبلة أمام مودرن سبورت قبل خوض تقسيمة فنية مصغرة.

وانتظم محمد السيد لاعب وسط الفريق في مران اليوم الاثنين، وذلك بعد عودة اللاعب من صفوف منتخب الشباب عقب خوض وديتي المغرب.

كما شارك أحمد فتوح الظهير الأيسر للفريق في التدريبات الجماعية، وذلك بعد انتهاء اللاعب من البرنامج التأهيلي الذي خضع له في الفترة الماضية.

وتقدم أحمد فتوح باعتذار لمجلس إدارة النادي وإدارة الكرة عما بدر منه في الفترة الماضية، بجانب التزام اللاعب بالقرارات التي أصدرها عبد الناصر محمد مدير الكرة تجاهه في الفترة الأخيرة، والتأكد من جاهزيته بدنيًا للمشاركة في التدريبات.

وشارك أحمد فتوح في التدريبات البدنية مع زملائه بصورة طبيعية، وبعدها شارك في الفقرة الخططية والتقسيمة الفنية.

ومن المقرر أن يلتقي الزمالك أمام مودرن سبورت يوم الخميس المقبل على ستاد هيئة قناة السويس في الجولة الثالثة لمسابقة الدوري المصري.

أعرب أحمد فتحي لاعب الأهلي وبيراميدز الأسبق، عن حزنه بعد الخسارة التي تعرض لها الأحمر أمام شباب بلوزداد، بالمباراة التي أقيمت بينهما ببطولة دوري أبطال إفريقيا.

وخسر الأهلي أمام شباب بلوزداد بهدف دون رد، على أرضية استاد 5 يوليه بالعاصمة الجزائرية، في الجولة الرابعة لدور المجموعات من المسابقة القارية.

وقال أحمد فتحي في تصريحات عبر قناة “أون تايم سبورتس”: “حزين على خسارة الأهلي، لا يوجد أحد في مصر غير حزين، كان من الممكن أن تخرج المباراة بالتعادل”.

وتابع: “منذ قدومي للنادي الأهلي وحتى رحيلي لم أفتعل أي مشكلة، الأهلي يحتاج قبل كأس العالم للأندية إلى رأس حربة قوي مع وسام أبو علي بنفس مستواه، أرى أن كهربا لابد أن يستمر ولا يرحل عن الفريق”.

وبسؤاله عن أزمته مع محمد بركات وإسلام الشاطر بعد تصريحه بأنهما ينتميان لـ الزمالك، قال: “لم أقصد والله، بركات لأنه يعرفني قال إنني لم أقصد، لكن الشاطر غضب مني جدًا، وجهة نظري أنا كنت ألعب في الإسماعيلي ولكن كنت أهلاويًا، ولو الأهلي خسر كنت أحزن وأبكي، ولكن طبيعي عندما كان يواجه الإسماعيلي فريق الأهلي كنت أموت نفسي”.

وواصل: “بركات وإسلام الشاطر لعبا للإسماعيلي (وكانوا بيموتوا نفسهم)، لم أقصد أنهما زملكاوية بمعنى الكلمة، ما كنت أعرفه أنهما يشجعان الزمالك”.

وأتم: “كنت سأتحدث مع الثنائي وأبلغهما أنني لم أقصد، ولكن هما خرجا وتحدثا بشأن هذا التصريح”.

A semana começa com treinamento na parte da manhã no CT da Barra Funda, nesta segunda-feira. Logo depois, na terça, mais um treinamento, desta vez na parte da tarde, onde Crespo deve montar a equipe que enfrentará o Coelho, em jogo decisivo para se afastar da parte de baixo da tabela.

A quarta-feira é agitada. O time treina na parte da manhã no CT e logo depois, às 20h30, enfrenta o América-MG, no Morumbi, em duelo atrasado da 19ª rodada do Campeonato Brasileiro.

The latest case of Covid-19 is the fifth incident to affect South African cricket after six players were withdrawn from the Warriors franchise ahead of the opening round of domestic matches; one player tested positive before South Africa went into their biosecure environment against England another two days into the preparations; and a third the day before the first ODI, which forced the ODI series to be postponed. The Sri Lankan team is due to arrive in South Africa on Friday amid assurances that they will be provided with a stricter biobubble than England, who left the team hotel to play golf on eight occasions. Sri Lanka and South Africa are due to be housed at the Irene Country Club, a venue with an on-site golf course, where all hotel staff will stay on site. Whether the six South African players involved in the Titans-Dolphins fixture – Aiden Markram, Dean Elgar, Lungi Ngidi, Keshav Maharaj, Sarel Erwee and Keegan Petersen – will be able to join them, remains to be seen. Markram top-scored with 75, Elgar contributed 52 and Maharaj claimed 3 for 48. Both teams went into this match at the top of their respective pools. All six franchise teams are also scheduled to play in another round of matches which starts on December 20, and a decision is yet to be made about whether the games will go ahead.
