Ipswich Town, despite being reduced to ten men for all of the second 45 minutes, valiantly picked up a 1-1 draw away at Aston Villa on Saturday.
Whilst past clashes with some of the Premier League’s top clubs have seen the Tractor Boys roll over for a demoralising defeat, this will have definitely been a confidence-boosting share of the points for Kieran McKenna’s men as they continue to try and stave off relegation.
Liam Delap would pop up again with another sublime strike to gift his team an invaluable draw, with the ex-Manchester City striker a standout performer once more on the road alongside plenty of other positive displays.

Delap would, of course, steal a lot of the plaudits come the full-time whistle for another poacher-like performance up top, with the 22-year-old only needing 26 touches of the ball to fire home Ipswich’s surprise opener.
Only registering three accurate passes all match long too, it wasn’t necessarily the most stylish showing from the Tractor Boys number 19, but he was in the right place at the right time yet again on the 56th-minute mark to convert only his second opportunity of the contest.
Away from this instinctive finish from Ipswich’s main shining light, the showing at Villa Park as a collective also saw debutant goalkeeper Alex Palmer come up trumps with some big saves, especially when his under-the-cosh team had one less body on the pitch owing to Axel Tuanzebe’s dismissal.
In total, the ex-West Bromwich Albion shot-stopper would prevent 1.79 goals with his blockbuster six saves, which is some entrance into the Premier League for the 28-year-old.

There is another face that hasn’t been mentioned yet that would have seriously impressed McKenna watching on, as the “fantastic” attacker – as he has been labelled by McKenna in the past – dazzled again from the number ten spot.

Omari Hutchinson’s stellar dart forward would set up Delap’s golden opportunity after all, with the ex-Chelsea man beating Ian Maatsen for pace and trickery before claiming himself a deserved assist.
It was certainly a full-blooded display from Hutchinson in the second half too, away from delivering the goods, with five tackles won among other notable numbers to ensure his team came away from their tricky trip to the West Midlands with a point in-tact.

Looking at the table above, alongside his five well-timed tackles, Hutchinson would also win six ground duels for his depleted team’s cause, on top of sticking out during his side’s main moment in the game when Villa Park was stunned into silence.
He would only amass 33 touches in the contest – with Palmer managing to register 47 in contrast – but those lack of meaningful touches was more than made up in his overall effort and drive, with McKenna no doubt wanting to continue to pick Hutchinson as a starter week in week out based on his committed display against Unai Emery’s men.
His overall top-flight tally of two goals and two assists does pale in comparison to Delap’s weighty ten Premier League strikes, but both Delap and Hutchinson will be key in Ipswich trying to beat the drop regardless if their starring roles in this determined 1-1 draw are anything to go by.

They might not have had the trophies to show for it, but Tottenham Hotspur have been blessed with some incredible players over the last decade and a half.
For example, Harry Kane and Son Heung-min were arguably the best strike partnership in the Premier League for large parts of the late 2010s, while the likes of Mousa Dembélé and Toby Alderweireld helped to make Mauricio Pochettino’s greatest team an absolute nightmare for opposition attackers.
However, in going back even further, you come to the utterly sensational Gareth Bale, who, in his pomp, had a claim to being the most dangerous attacker in the country.
The Welsh icon was a goalscoring force of nature for the Lilywhites, and in some ways, Ange Postecoglou might have his own version in the squad today.

Tottenham completed the £10m signing of Southampton’s 17-year-old Bale in May 2007, and while he was a highly-rated youngster tipped for greatness at the time, it took a while for that to happen in North London.
For example, early on in his Spurs career, the Cardiff-born dynamo suffered a ligament injury in his ankle, and when he returned to the fold around eight months later, nothing went right for him.
In fact, the then-full-back famously didn’t win his first game with the Lilywhites until the 25th attempt, and it became such a talking point that Sir Alex Ferguson reportedly told Harry Redknapp to drop him from the team because he was a bad-luck charm.

The Englishman didn’t listen to the Manchester United boss, and on top of sticking by the young talent, he opted to move him up the pitch from left-back to left midfield and left-wing part way through the 09/10 campaign, which, as we all know today, was an inspired decision.
In all, the 35-year-old ended up scoring 55 goals and providing 50 assists in 203 appearances across his first stint with the club before adding another 16 goals and three assists in 34 games during the 20/21 campaign.

However, it was the 12/13 season that truly established the former Saints gem as a genuine world-class talent and secured his £85m move to Real Madrid, as in just 44 appearances, the 111-capped international scored 26 goals and provided ten assists, coming out to an average of a goal involvement every 1.22 games.
Overall, Bale has to go down as one of the best players Spurs have had in the modern era, and excitingly, they may have someone who can replicate some of his output in the squad today.

So, while this season has been something of a disaster for Postecoglou and Spurs, there are still several incredibly talented players within the squad.
The likes of Dejan Kulusevski, Djed Spend and Lucas Bergvall, for example, could all be key members of the next great Lilywhites team, but when it comes to their new Bale, it can be one man: Brennan Johnson.
The talented forward joined the club for around £47.5m from Nottingham Forest in September 2023, and before the pitchforks come out, we are not saying he is as talented or will ever be as talented as the multiple Champions League winner, but there are a couple of clear similarities.

The first is, as the Cardiff-born legend was, the 23-year-old is a key member of the Welsh national team and has already racked up 33 senior caps, in which he’s scored five goals and provided four assists.
The second reason is that the former Forest star also endured a slow start to life in N17, as while he didn’t need 25 appearances to pick up his first win, he didn’t score his second league goal for the club until matchweek 22 last season.

Finally, and perhaps most importantly, after another slow start to this year, the “frightening” dynamo who can “make something happen,” as dubbed by podcaster and content creator HLTCO, has become a reliable source of goals and assists from the wing.
For example, in just 34 appearances this season, totalling 2211 minutes, the Nottingham-born ace has scored 14 goals and provided three assists, which comes to an average of a goal involvement every other game, or every 130.05 minutes.
Now, it seems incredibly unlikely that he will be able to match Bale’s sensational tally from the 12/13 campaign, but as things stand, we wouldn’t put it past the former Forest star to reach 20 goals in all competitions before May.
Ultimately, things might not have gone too well for Spurs this year, but in Johnson, it looks like they have an incredibly talented winger and someone who could reach another level next season should the players around him remain fit.

Andrew Tye, the Australia seamer, has signed for Northamptonshire for the 2023 T20 Blast.Tye was the stand-out performer in Durham’s Blast campaign last season, claiming 21 wickets in 10 matches, to take his overall record in the competition to 67 wickets in 48, following a previous spell at Gloucestershire between 2016 and 2019.He joins Northants off the back of his fourth BBL title, having helped Perth Scorchers overcome Brisbane Heat in last week’s final. However, as good as that pass was, the winger struggled to make chances of his own count in key moments. This was something Samuel Luckhurst picked up on in his post-match ratings.
The Manchester Evening News journalist gave Garnacho a 6/10 for his efforts, and described his efforts on goal, which regularly found the side-netting, as ‘infuriating’.
Indeed, the United number 17’s stats on Sofascore suggest the mixed night he had in San Sebastian. He had 22 touches and created two chances, yet had five shots, finding the target with just two of them, and won one out of five duels.
In many ways, the game against Sociedad summed up Garnacho’s season. His goals and assist numbers are impressive, with 15 in 42 games across all competitions, but they have tended to come in clumps rather than consistently throughout the season.
If he does struggle for form towards the end of the season, perhaps Amorim will consider giving a debut to one of Carrington’s most exciting players.

Garnacho is one of several exciting academy products to break through into the Old Trafford first team in recent years. Others include the likes of Kobbie Mainoo, Toby Collyer, and, more recently, Chido Obi.
Perhaps the next in line will be 16-year-old attacker Amir Ibragimov. The England under-16 international has been impressive for the Red Devils academy this season.
In 22 appearances across all competitions, he has seven goals and four assists to his name.

One of the most exciting things about Ibragimov is the fact that he is a genuine goalscorer. Earlier this season, he scored a hat-trick against Red Devils’ arch-rivals Leeds United, showing a big threat in front of goal.
With that in mind, it might be unsurprising that the youngster has been compared to one of the all-time great United players, and the club’s top goalscorer, Wayne Rooney. Journalist Jamie Jackson claimed that the England under-16 international plays the “Rooney role” for the United academy.
If Ibragimov gets anywhere near the levels that Rooney hit whilst in a United shirt, he will have had a successful career. The former United captain played 559 times for the club, scoring 253 times and grabbing 138 assists.
There is no doubt that Ibragimov is an exciting talent. Maybe a first-team debut will come too soon for him this season, but United fans could surely expect to see Ibragimov make his full debut sooner rather than later.
