Arsenal fans left fuming with performance of Xhaka after Sunday’s loss

Manchester City re-asserted their dominance on the English Premier League on Sunday, comfortably beating Arsenal 3-1 at the Etihad in one of Sunday’s big clashes.

Pep Guardiola’s side were in lethal form across the 90 minutes and never looked like losing the game. Kevin De Bruyne, Sergio Aguero and Gabriel Jesus were all on the scoresheet, with Arsenal only mustering an Alexandre Lacazette goal in reply.

It was another match to forget for Gunners fans, which is becoming an all too familiar an occurrence this season.

Having finished the weekend in sixth position, the pressure is really on Arsene Wenger to turn around results and string together the kind of form that makes them guarantees for a top four position.

Supporters were of course bitterly disappointed with the lacklustre performance, with most of their criticism saved for midfield Granit Xhaka, who didn’t have any positive effect on the game whatsoever.

Fans took to Twitter after the match to share their thoughts…

Newcastle fans react to reports linking Mohamed Diame with Aston Villa

Just over a year ago, Mohamed Diame was lauded as a hero in the North-East, with his play-off final goal successfully guiding Hull City back-up to the Premier League.

However, times have changed for the Senegalese international, who is now struggling to find form and game time at Newcastle.

Now, reports are suggesting that Diame’s former boss Steve Bruce, is keen on bringing the midfielder to Aston Villa in January.

Diame, who is valued at £5.4million by Transfermarkt, has started just one game for the Toon Army this season and hasn’t endeared himself to the Newcastle fans with his lacklustre performances. Despite a decent Premier League career with Wigan and West Ham particularly, the 30-year-old now looks out of his depth in the English top flight.

Consigned to a substitute role at St James’s Park this season, Diame may feel a move to Aston Villa is the only way to salvage his career and clai a place in the Senegal squad for the World Cup next summer.

Upon hearing the news of a possible Diame departure, Newcastle fans voiced their opinions on Twitter…

West Ham fans slam Aaron Cresswell after Everton humilation

West Ham United suffered a humiliating 4-0 defeat against fellow strugglers Everton at Goodison Park on Wednesday night, and Irons fans weren’t impressed with Aaron Cresswell’s performance.

The east London outfit came into the clash against the Toffees on the back of a 1-1 draw against Leicester City at the London Stadium on Friday night, and they knew their opponents had suffered successive 5-1 and 4-1 losses.

However, a hat-trick from Wayne Rooney and a late header from Ashley Williams gave the hosts a comprehensive victory, although things may have been different had Manuel Lanzini not missed a penalty and Cresswell’s fine effort not crashed off of the crossbar.

The left-back did improve after the break following a poor first-half of mis-placed passes and poor crosses, but it wasn’t enough to appease the Hammers faithful.

West Ham supporters took to social media to give their thoughts on the 27-year-old’s display, and while one simply said he “is the worst”, another said the club “should have sold Cresswell to Liverpool two seasons ago when he was playing rather well”.

Here is just a selection of the Twitter reaction…

Tottenham Hotspur fans hail Eriksen for reaching milestone

Christian Eriksen has suffered criticism at the hands of some Tottenham Hotspur fans in recent weeks.

The Denmark international had a dip in form during the club’s spell in which they failed to win four Premier League games in a row.

On Saturday, though, the midfielder put in a goalscoring display in a 5-1 romp over Stoke City at Wembley.

Harry Kane netted twice, Son Heung-min also scored, while Ryan Shawcross sent the ball into his own net to inadvertently boost Spurs’ tally.

It was a special day for Eriksen, not just because he notched up his fourth league goal of the season.

The 25-year-old made his 200th appearance for the North London outfit, which he joined from Ajax in 2013.

Over the weekend, Tottenham celebrated the midfielder’s achievement on Twitter by showing clips of some of his best performances.

On this occasion, the fans chose to praise Eriksen rather than aim criticism in his direction.

West Ham’s excellent summer would continue with addition of Georginio Wijnaldum

According to a recent report from A Spor, midfielder Georginio Wijnaldum could well be on his way out of Liverpool this summer. The Netherlands international has been a regular feature in Jurgen Klopp’s side in the last few years but could be set to suffer from the summer arrival of Fabinho and Naby Keita, with both likely to push the 27-year-old down the midfield pecking order at Anfield.

And these reports should certainly be of interest to West Ham manager Manuel Pellegrini, who should seek to perfectly complete the Hammers’ excellent summer by making a move for the linked-away £27 million-rated ace (as per Transfermarkt).

The Breakdown

Ultimately, Pellegrini has been busy rebuilding and remoulding the West Ham squad since taking over at the London Stadium earlier this summer, doing so in key positions of the pitch in bringing in a goalkeeper in Lukasz Fabianski, a right back in Ryan Fredericks, and a centre back in Issa Diop.

Add in the arrival of Jack Wilshere on a free earlier this week, and today’s addition of Andriy Yarmolenko, and the Chilean has already done a fine job in the summer window, although many still feel that another man in the middle of the park is needed for the Hammers to move to the next level.

Cheikhou Kouyate didn’t enjoy the best of seasons last time round while Pedro Obiang missed much of it through injury, leaving Hammers stalwart Mark Noble as the most consistent performer in the midfield, for which he deserves much credit.

How far will England get in Russia? Tell us now

But if the East London outfit are serious about challenging in the top half and potentially for the European places, more strength, quality, and depth is needed in those midfield ranks – Wijnaldum would provide just that.

The Dutchman made the move to Liverpool back in 2016 and has since become a regular in Klopp’s side, missing just two Premier League games en route to their fourth place finish back in 2016/17, and only five last term as they replicated that effort.

Add in his 12 appearances for the Reds in their run to the Champions League final, and it’s clear that the 27-year-old has been a pivotal part of Klopp’s revolution at Anfield, although messrs Fabinho and Keita are likely to command regular minutes ahead of the Netherlands ace.

Thus, Wijnaldum could well be on the lookout for his next club this summer, and West Ham should seriously seek to ask the question in a bid to complete an outstanding summer of transfer business at the London Stadium.

Tottenham fans react to latest Barrios reports

Tottenham Hotspur have been linked with a move for Boca Juniors midfielder Wilmar Barrios over the last few weeks, and were expected to complete the deal this month.

[ad_pod ]

However, according to Argentine journalist Luis Fregossi, Chelsea are now the favourites for the midfielder, and could sign him in the January transfer window.

Barrios was in action for Colombia at the 2018 World Cup, and put in an energetic performance against England in the last-16 stage of the tournament.

Spurs boss Mauricio Pochettino is believed to have viewed Barrios as a potential replacement for Mousa Dembele, but now Chelsea are seemingly in the driving seat.

The news has come as a big blow to the Tottenham fans who have been frustrated with their club’s lack of movement since the transfer window opened for business.

Barrios could go on to become a star in the Premier League, and the Spurs supporters fear that the 24-year-old will now be making the move to Chelsea.

Under could be the man to put Man United back over Man City

Manchester United will be hoping their summer signings can help to challenge Manchester City for the title next year.

The Red Devils finished 19 points behind the Citizens last season and also lost in the final of the FA Cup against Chelsea. After ending the campaign without a trophy for the first time as United manager, Jose Mourinho has wasted no time in bolstering his ranks this summer. United have spent over £70m to bring Diogo Dalot and Fred to Old Trafford.

With Alexis Sanchez on the left and Romelu Lukaku in the centre, the former Chelsea boss has an attack that can guide United to another Premier League title. On the right, United are void of quality options that can spearhead a title challenge. Therefore, Mourinho needs to land a top right winger this summer.

The perfect signing could be Roma wonderkid – Cengiz Under. Valued at £24.3m by Transfermarkt, the Turkish international joined the club last summer from Basaksehir to replace Mohamed Salah who left for Liverpool. Under made an excellent start to life in Italy, scoring seven goals in just 15 starts in the Serie A.

Capable on either flank, the 21-year-old would be a massive hit in the Premier League. A skilful winger who loves to beat his man, Under loves turning defence into attack. His hard-working nature means he is ideal for Mourinho. Alongside target man Edin Dzeko, he has excelled, meaning he would have slot seamlessly into the United attack with Lukaku.

Under made it clear in an interview last year that he wants to play in the Premier League for a club like Manchester United. Now is the time to bring him to England.

Manchester United fans, thoughts?

Revealed: 57% of fans think Barca outcast Gomes should choose Arsenal over Spurs

It has been clear for quite some time that Portuguese international midfielder Andre Gomes is surplus to requirements at La Liga champions Barcelona as they seek to clear the decks and prepare for a renewed assault on the Champions League after the big-money signings of Philippe Coutinho and Ousmane Dembele last season.

Reports suggest that the former Valencia man’s likely destination will be north London, with both Unai Emery and Mauricio Pochettino interested in the services of the talented midfielder, who has just lost his way somewhat since joining the Catalan giants.

It is the Gunners who have been much more decisive and active in the transfer market so far – although they had far greater need to be – but we asked whether Gomes should shun the Emery revolution in order to usher in a new era at White Hart Lane.

In actual fact, the fans we polled think the Gomes should join the red half of town, with 57 per cent of them urging the playmaker to link up with Emery, as you can see from the full results below…

Revealed: 85% of Everton fans expect Chelsea target Pickford to remain at Goodison

Jordan Pickford went into the World Cup as a marginal choice to be England’s first-choice goalkeeper and left Russia as something of a national hero.

His rapid summer rise continued when he was reportedly installed as Chelsea’s top target to replace outgoing Golden Glove winner Thibaut Courtois, which has apparently prompted Everton to ready a new contract.

With Everton’s incoming transfer business moving slowly, retaining a key asset like Pickford is essential in order to maintain the feel-good factor brought about by Marco Silva’s belated appointment at Goodison.

So, we asked Toffees fans whether they expect new manager Silva to retain the services of Pickford beyond the current transfer window and it is clear from the results that they have major faith in the former Watford boss.

85 per cent of Toffees believe that the former Sunderland glovesman will be between the sticks at Goodison this season, as shown by the full results below…

Abraham could be cheap and effective option for Newcastle United

Newcastle United should consider reviving interest in Chelsea attacker Tammy Abraham amid reports from the Daily Mail that the youngster wants to stay in the Premier League.

What’s the word?

After Dwight Gayle and Joselu failed to make an impact in front of goal last season, it is not hugely surprising that the club would be looking at new attackers.

The Magpies have been linked to a handful of forwards, but one name that has not emerged recently is Abraham.

The 20-year-old has been touted as a possible target for Newcastle in the past, and now it has emerged from the Daily Mail that he wants to stay in the top flight.

The North-East outfit are working on a budget, so perhaps they should try to cut a deal with Chelsea.

Is it likely?

Newcastle’s financial situation would suggest that a loan deal would be favourable, but they have already struck a temporary arrangement with Chelsea for Kenedy.

Therefore, the Magpies are not permitted to secure another loan from the boys in blue.

A permanent deal may not be completely out of their reach, though, as Abraham is unlikely to demand a high figure given his age and the fact that he is not playing regular first-team football for Chelsea.

Signing the youngster would be a risk given that he has scored just five goals in 33 Premier League outings.

However, he has netted 23 times in 41 Championship matches – and 26 in all competitions for Bristol City during the 2016/17 season – so if he gets a run of minutes, the forward would end up solving Newcastle’s attacking woes.
