Crystal Palace fans discuss interest in Schalke midfielder Nabil Bentaleb

Crystal Palace fans have taken to Twitter to react after Foot Mercato reported that the south Londoners are interested in signing Schalke midfielder Nabil Bentaleb.

The 35-cap Algeria international – who previously played for Tottenham – has fallen out of favour at the Bundesliga club and has been forced to train away from the first-team, and it now looks as if he could depart Germany with the Eagles interested in signing him, along with a host of other sides including AC Milan.

Bentaleb, 25, has not made a first-team appearance this season, and surely isn’t what Roy Hodgson needs given his well-stocked midfield but lack of senior right-backs or effective strikers.

The former England manager has the likes of James McArthur, James McCarthy, Luka Milivojevic, Max Meyer, Cheikhou Kouyate, Jeffrey Schlupp and Victor Camarasa to play in his midfield, although he has one natural right-back in Joel Ward while only one of his strikers, Jordan Ayew, has scored more than one goal this season.

To sign another midfielder when Martin Kelly – who is more comfortable at centre-back – is having to cover for the injured Ward while Palace are also the Premier League’s second-lowest scorers would make no sense.

Aside from that, let’s see how the Palace fans reacted to the news on Twitter.

This fan opened the discussion with a quite bold demand, asking the south Londoners to swap Meyer and club captain Milivojevic for the Algerian midfielder – if that ever happened, it would surely be a shock move.

Elsewhere, this fan said that they’d “definitely take” Bentaleb before calling him a “great player”.

The adoration for the former Tottenham midfielder continued with John’s tweet, in which he said that he’s “always liked” the 25-year-old from his days in north London.

Another fan simply said “please” as they express a desire to see this deal be completed.

Lastly, these two fans seemingly want Bentaleb without a moment of hesitation.

One fan also said “please” before describing the player as “unreal”, while another supporter named Liam said that he’d “take this 100%”.

Spurs fans react to Eriksen performance

Tottenham Hotspur fans have been reacting to Christian Eriksen’s poor display against Liverpool.

The Denmark international played in midfield alongside Harry Winks against the Reds but he didn’t really have too much of an impact on the game.

Indeed, per WhoScored, while the 6 foot midfielder registered key passes, he did not complete a dribble and was dribbled past on two occasions; he completed just two corners from the four he attempted and was roundly booed when he was substituted.

There is interest from Inter Milan in Eriksen, per FFC sources, and this could well be the final time he is seen in a Spurs shirt.

And, judging by the opinions of a number of fans, that wouldn’t be the worst thing.

The big fat Tottenham quiz of 2019 – how much do you remember about the last year at Spurs?

Eriksen, of course, has been largely woeful for the majority of the season.

His contract expires at the end of the season and it does appear as though his head has been elsewhere throughout the 2019/20 campaign.

Per WhoScored, he has had a rating of over seven on just three occasions and has actually had a rating below six four times.

Against Liverpool, this was another poor showing; fans were well within their rights to vent their feelings.

And a number of supporters merely expressed their sadness at his demise.

If it is the end of his career in north London, manager Jose Mourinho is unlikely to miss him either.

Meanwhile, Spurs could have reached the heights of Liverpool after one moment in time!

West Ham set to battle Premier League rivals for Bertrand Traore

West Ham United are set to battle with Premier League rivals for the acquisition of Lyon forward Bertrand Traore, as reported by Foot Mercato.

What’s the story?

It is suggested that the Hammers will be going up against their relegation rivals AFC Bournemouth to sign the 24-year-old during the winter window.

However, it seems as though there is a considerable difference in the deal structures the two clubs are offering the French giants.

The Cherries are offering to pay €35m [£29.4m] during this window, while West Ham are looking to take Traore on an initial loan with an option to buy included.

It is also stated within the report that Leicester City are pursuing a deal that is similar to the one proposed by West Ham.

A big risk

If either of these clubs end up completing a move for the Burkina Faso international, with the £29.4m price tag playing a part, whether that is paid in the winter or summer, it could be considered a big risk.

This campaign, Traore has made 11 Ligue 1 starts, while also coming off the bench five times, getting three assists during that time but no goals.

Did he really play for us?! No West Ham fan has managed to name all of these obscure Irons signings….

He has shown an ability to make an impact in general play though, averaging 1.2 key passes and 1.6 dribbles per game, while completing 84.8% of his passes.

This indicates that there is definitely scope for him to make a positive impact, but the fact that he has been used fairly sporadically should ring some alarm bells when taking into account the considerable fees that are being touted.

The Hammers could definitely use attacking reinforcements though, with Albian Ajeti having been slammed by Paul Robinson for his moment against Everton, while he is still yet to score a goal for West Ham.

Traore could prove to be a useful option, but he is someone who would be far from a surefire success if brought in.

Meanwhile, West Ham are rivalling a Bundesliga and Premier League outfit for an international winger.

Man Utd fans fuming with Phil Neville saying they should "accept" their fate

It has been a rocky old period for Manchester United and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer. The Red Devils are outside of the top four in the Premier League, and have endured some very disappointing results – not least their 2-0 defeat to Burnley last time out.

However, speaking on Match of the Day after that loss, Phil Neville has insisted people simply have to “accept” where the club are right now, and that there are signs they are heading in the right direction.

He said (as quoted by The Manchester Evening News): “It’s a massive concern. I think they’ve got to stick with him (Solskjaer). The squad to me looks light, it looks inexperienced, it looks weighed down by the expectation. I think they need two signings in this window to have any success this season.

“There’s bits I see from them that I think, ‘They’re heading in the right direction’. The youth side, the energy around the place. It’s just that lack of quality. United are where they are at this moment in time and people have got to accept it.”

After hearing about Neville’s comments, United fans took to Twitter to voice their thoughts on what the former Red Devils ace had to say.

A couple of fans refused to fall in line with Neville’s perspective, and insisted they are under no obligation to “accept” anything.

A couple of United supporters also appeared to label Neville a “puppet”.

Some fans of the Manchester side insisted the kind of mentality their former ace showed is exactly how, and why, clubs become “mediocre”.

United fans are absolutely right to be fuming with Neville’s assessment of the club’s plight, and how people should “accept” it. That kind of resigned stance is exactly why the Red Devils appear to be heading on this downward spiral, unable to lift themselves from their slumber. It’s all a case of a lack of responsibility and accountability, and no-one really sticking their neck out to truly question the natural order.

Idiots Abroad: Do you know where these famous Brits are playing now?

Fans voicing their opinions on how badly they feel let down, and how they deem the ownership to be the prime culprits for that is how change can happen. The bigger and more powerful the fan movement gets, the harder it becomes for those dining at the top table to ignore.

Ex-professionals, and former United players like Neville have a duty of care to uphold the club’s values. Instead, comments like the one the England Women’s boss made on Match of the Day completely undermines all the work the supporters of the Manchester side have done in trying to initiate real, and beneficial change.

Meanwhile, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer must make a ruthless call on this under-performing ace.

Leeds target Britt Assombalonga put up for sale

Britt Assombalonga has been put up for sale by Middlesbrough, as reported by The Sunday People [via The Daily Star].

What’s the story?

The Championship club need to reduce their wage bill during the January transfer window, with offloading the striker being seen as a way of achieving that.

This opens the door for Leeds to sign the 27-year-old, having already shown interest in him during the window.

Marcelo Bielsa is said to be keen to bring Assombalonga to Elland Road and Middlesbrough’s stance will leave Jonathan Woodgate powerless to stop him.

The main potential roadblock for the move is Bristol City, who are also said to be interested in signing the Championship forward.

A decision to make

This does potentially leave Bielsa and the decision-makers at Leeds with a decision to make on their striker situation.

They are in definite need of a new frontman, following Eddie Nketiah’s recall by Arsenal, but the question is now about who they bring in.

Phil Hay has reported that things are going well in regard to the club signing Jean-Kevin Augustin from RB Leipzig, with his loan at AS Monaco set to be cut short.

While one striker is a must, Leeds could now need to pick between the two forwards, or could even bring in both, though the latter option seems fairly unlikely.

Are you a Championship expert? How much did each of these big-money signings cost?

That is because they already have Patrick Bamford, who has scored ten goals and got two assists in the Championship so far this term.

When Marcelo Bielsa arrived at Leeds, he made it clear that he likes to have a small squad, as reported by Leeds Live: “I like to have a trimmed down, lean squad that’s not too top heavy in terms of numbers and the numbers in the squad so everyone is getting regular game time.”

Therefore, it is highly unlikely that he would want three strikers fighting for one spot. The club’s hierarchy must now make a choice.

Meanwhile, FFC have named someone Leeds would have been better off signing than Ian Poveda.

Crystal Palace fans react as PSV Eindhoven increase their Patrick van Aanholt offer

Crystal Palace fans have taken to Twitter to react after Sky Sports revealed that PSV Eindhoven have increased their offer for Patrick van Aanholt.

The Eredivisie outfit – who Van Aanholt used to play for – bid £4.2m for the Netherlands international, although that was rejected by the Eagles while PSV have now come in with a new offer that ‘could rise to £7.6m’.

Van Aanholt has 18 months left on his contract at Selhurst Park and has made 17 appearances in the Premier League this season, scoring two goals.

The 29-year-old cost Palace a fee in the region of £14m when they signed him from Sunderland in January 2017, where he has since made 99 appearances for the south Londoners, scoring 13 goals and providing three assists.

The Evening Standard reported that Palace would not consider any offers for their No.3 this month.

Roy Hodgson has no other senior left-backs behind Van Aanholt, although Jairo Riedewald and Jeffrey Schlupp can cover in the role if need be.

Let’s see how the Palace fans on Twitter reacted to the news…

To kick off the reaction, Harry Kirby said that PSV are “getting closer” – however, we’re unsure as to what they’re getting closer to given Palace’s stance of not wanting to sell.

Elsewhere, these three fans all said that Van Aanholt should not be sold in their own, unique way.

Michael said – all in capital letters to emphasise his point – that the Eagles should not sell the former Chelsea man unless a “younger, competent replacement” is signed.

Jay said “beg we don’t sell” before stating that the 29-year-old “has a great impact on the team when he plays”.

Mandy then reiterated our aforementioned point that Van Aanholt is Hodgson’s only natural left-back, and that the Eagles “would be mad to sell” – “especially” this late in the window.

Lastly, these two fans both had contrasting views on the situation.

Who on earth is that?!?! Can you name all of these obscure January signings?

Sam said that PSV’s offer is “still not really enough” although @cpfc_sean said “get the money” and Riedewald can stay at left-back until Nathan Ferguson or Jamal Lewis are signed – The Evening Standard have reported that Palace are targeting a move for the West Brom teenager, whereas Football Insider state that talks are at an advanced stage with Norwich over Lewis’ signature.

Vivianne Miedema reveals what Arsenal’s main focus should be this season

Speaking exclusively to Snack Media, Arsenal Women’s star Vivianne Miedema has revealed the north London side must be focused on achieving Champions League qualification for next season.

Having won the Women’s Super League last year by seven points, the Gunners are in the midst of a battle with Manchester City and Chelsea in a bid to retain their title.

Joe Montemurro’s side are three points behind current leaders City, and lie in third. And with only the top two teams in the division securing a place in European football’s elite competition, Miedema has insisted the Gunners must ensure they are playing Champions League football once again next season.

She said: “Before the season started, we already had said our main goal is qualifying for the the Champions League again. Right now, we’re still in the FA Cup, the Continental Cup, and in the title race.

“But I think our focus should be on qualifying for the Champions League again next year because in the end, that’s what you want. You want to play Champions League, you want to match yourself with the best teams in Europe and from there on, everything else is a bonus.”

Whilst news that the Women’s Super League will receive a third Champions League place for the 2021/2022 campaign will be well received, Arsenal will be well aware that they face an incredibly tough task this year to make it into the competition for next season.

Despite having Miedema continue to find the back of the net at an extraordinary rate – she is averaging a goal every 81 minutes in the league this campaign – the Gunners have seen their title defence stall in recent weeks.

The north Londoners have suffered damaging defeats to both their title rivals, losing 4-1 to Chelsea, and then falling to a 2-1 reverse to City.

The margin for error now is extremely slim, and Miedema in particular will have to be at the top of her game if the Gunners are to retain their trophy.

Liverpool are monitoring Bukayo Saka’s situation at Arsenal

The Daily Mail is reporting that Liverpool are monitoring Bukayo Saka’s contract situation at Arsenal.

What’s the story?

The reports starts off by saying that the Gunners are trying to get the 18-year-old to sign a new deal as they look to fend off interest from other clubs.

Can you name the result these iconic Liverpool images belong to? Give it a go now…

He has just 18 months left on his contract, which has alerted the likes of the Reds, Bayern Munich and Manchester United.

Versatile

Saka has burst on to the scene this year at the Emirates Stadium. He has mainly impressed in the Europa League – in four matches so far this term in that European competition, he has managed two goals and four assists, averaging three key passes and 2.3 dribbles per match. Following his performance against Qarabag, Michael Owen even likened him to Cristiano Ronaldo (BT Sport via The Sun).

He has made 10 Premier League starts as well, and it is his versatility which stands out. Arguably his best displays have come on the left wing, but he has also featured on a regular basis at left-back as well. Clearly, he can play in a number of positions on the left, which would be worth its weight in gold to Jurgen Klopp – the likes of James Milner and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, both of whom have been deployed in several different roles this term, have come in extremely handy.

Watch Liverpool Videos With StreamFootball.tv Below

The likeliest situation in which the Anfield outfit would be able to get their hands on Saka would be if his contract were to run down – in that case, he would arrive as a free agent and, as he currently earns around £3,000 per week, signing him up would not set them back a fortune in wages. By signing the likes of Sepp van den Berg and Harvey Elliott in the previous summer transfer window, Klopp is clearly looking to plan for the future. Signing Saka would fit nicely in with that.

Meanwhile, Liverpool fans react to one former star’s latest comments.

Everton boss Carlo Ancelotti makes worrying claim

As quoted by the club’s official website, Carlo Ancelotti has revealed that he doesn’t want his team to have a “really clear identity”.

What did he say?

The Italian took over as Everton manager on a permanent basis in December 2019, and has sparked an impressive turnaround, leading the Toffees to eighth in the Premier League table.

And speaking about how he wants to take the Merseyside team forward, Ancelotti revealed that he is far more in favour of his team being able to adapt to different styles of play, rather than one “clear identity”.

Watch Everton Videos With StreamFootball.tv Below

He said: “I don’t want that my team has a really clear identity. If you have a really clear identity, then you can play football in only one way. You can play football in different ways. You can play football being aggressive, defensively, with an attacking style, with counter-attack.

“You cannot say one is good and one is not good. There is no one winning system. I think the winning system is to put the players on the pitch comfortable. Our work is to put a team that has a clear idea – not clear identity – on the pitch. The players that are going on the pitch, they have to know what they do. And, of course, the goal is to give happiness to the supporters. This is the ambition.”

Potential for problems

Whilst there is certainly a sense of logic to Ancelotti’s methods – after all, the Italian is one of the most successful managers in the history of the game with Champions League titles to his name – it is difficult to see how not having a clear identity is a sustainable approach for the long-term.

The 60-year-old appears to be intent on ensuring his side are a force immediately, but that could lead to major problems down the line. When you’ve got a clear philosophy, that filters through into not just the first-team, but the academy sides too – an ‘Everton way’ of playing so to speak.

Did he play for Everton? Simple question but a lot tougher than you think…

Instead, Ancelotti’s wish for his team to be almost chameleon-like means that when the going gets tough, the side won’t have a foundation to fall back on. His managerial approach is paying major dividends so far, but there could be potential problems in the foreseeable future.

Meanwhile, this Everton target could dazzle on the right wing.

West Ham fans fume over 79th minute moment against Man City

West Ham United’s performance against Manchester City was appalling, giving fans very little to shout about – unless it was out of frustration.

To give some details of just how little they contributed to the game, Rodri made more passes than West Ham’s whole team combined, while City had 77.3% of possession.

Seeing Jarrod Bowen on the pitch for a substantial amount of time could have given fans some form of excitement, but David Moyes left it too long for that to be the case, introducing him in the 79th.

The feeling was that he was brought on “too late” to make any real impact on the game’s proceedings, as is backed up by the fact that he attempted just four passes and one dribble during his time on the pitch.

Even if he had been able to get on the ball with greater regularity, it would have taken something pretty incredible for the 23-year-old to inspire a comeback from two goals down in that amount of time.

Call yourself a Premier League expert? How much did each of these big-money January signings cost?

There are some fans who felt that he should have been starting the match, rather than being a substitute, stating that his introduction was “79 minutes too late”.

The fact that Moyes left his £20m+ signing out set the tone for what was a very underwhelming performance, which lacked any real ambition.

While having Bowen on the pitch may not have changed the result, he could have added a bit more excitement to the night’s proceedings.

This has even led to some fans venting their frustration about the club in general, with one referring to it as “an absolute joke”, while another added that they “can’t wait for this club to liquidate”.

With West Ham currently occupying a place in the bottom three, led by a manager who has been reappointed having been sacked in 2018 and owned by people who have left them fuming, it shouldn’t be too surprising that they are showing discontent.

Considering this reaction, Moyes may be advised to give Bowen more time when the Hammers face Liverpool.

Meanwhile, Phil Parkes names who West Ham should be inspired by.
