Celtic close to signing Carl Starfelt

When it comes to Celtic’s recruitment, things are never achieved the easy way.

You only need to look at the Hoops’ pursuit for a new manager a few months ago when they negotiated with Eddie Howe for two months before settling on Ange Postecoglou.

What’s the word?

Celtic’s transfer window is also turning out to be a topsy-turvy affair with plenty of twists and turns.

Last week it was revealed that Celtic were interested in signing Rubin Kazan defender Carl Starfelt.

They’d made a bid to secure his services but seemingly pulled the plug on a deal due to the uncertainty surrounding Kristoffer Ajer’s future.

However, the Bhoys have had another change of heart and have moved again to wrap up a deal.

That’s according to Fabrizio Romano who claims there will be an announcement soon regarding his arrival at Parkhead.

He tweeted: “Celtic have reached an agreement with Rubin Kazan to sign Carl Starfelt, done deal and here we go. €5m as final fee – negotiations completed. Next target: Brandon Soppy. Celtic official announcement soon for Starfelt, personal terms agreed as advanced one week ago.”

This would be the club’s third signing after Liam Shaw and Osaze Urhoghide.

Ideal signing

Whether or not an agreement on this deal means that Celtic will finalise Ajer’s exit remains to be seen but either way, Starfelt would be a fabulous addition for the Hoops.

He fits Postecoglou’s play style and is an ideal fit for the type of profile the club should be looking at.

Last summer they welcomed Shane Duffy to the club on loan but he evidently didn’t fit what Celtic were trying to achieve.

[snack-amp-story url= “https://www.footballfancast.com/web-stories/read-the-latest-celtic-news-doig-nketiah-mccann” title= “Read the latest Celtic transfer news!”]

A colossus in the air, the Irishman’s distribution was far from perfect.

Starfelt, on the other hand, prides himself on transitioning the ball out of the defence. He doesn’t carry the ball forward in a way that Ajer would but his passing is superb.

In fact, no player in the Russian top-flight had a higher success rate than the Sweden international’s 91.4% last season.

With that in mind, supporters should be excited by the fact that Celtic have changed their mind again on the player.

Distributing the ball out from the back will be key under Postecoglou, especially after his open mic training session showed that he wants the team to play one or two-touch football.

Starfelt is perfect for that and at the age of 26, has experience at European and international level on his side.

With Celtic’s European qualification campaign rapidly approaching, getting this deal sorted as quickly as possible will be imperative to settle the nerves of supporters.

Ele estava treinando separado do grupo vascaíno desde a pré-temporada.

Wolves transfer update on Correa

Lots of Wolves fans have been left lauding a transfer update involving Joaquin Correa.

As per Il Messaggero, the Molineux faithful are one of a number of teams in the Premier League interested in signing the Lazio ace, along with Tottenham Hotspur, Everton, Arsenal and Leicester City.

They are reportedly already in talks with his agent over a potential move to the Midlands, and Lazio are looking to move him on in order to raise funds for incomings.

Correa has come off the back of a very impressive 2020/21 season, scoring no fewer than 11 goals and making a further six assists in 38 games in total over all competitions, including in the UEFA Champions League (Transfermarkt).

The Argentina international is just about to hit his peak years at 26, and would certainly be a big coup for the Wanderers should they be able to fend off all of the competition for his signature.

We were hammered, admits Netherlands skipper

Netherlands captain Roland Lefebvre admitted his side had been "hammered" byPakistan, but defended his side’s participation in the tournament, arguingthat the only way to improve was to play against the best

Charlie Austin21-Sep-2002Netherlands captain Roland Lefebvre admitted his side had been "hammered" byPakistan, but defended his side’s participation in the tournament, arguingthat the only way to improve was to play against the best.Pakistan needed just 16.2 overs to reach the Netherlands 137 run target asImran Nazir scored 59 from 40 balls and Shahid Afridi blitzed 55 from only18, the second fastest one-day fifty."Ya, we got hammered in the end," admitted Lefebvre. "I didn’t expect it toend that quickly. I thought they might play some shots but I hoped we mightbe able to contain them a bit a longer. It was disappointing, but they havegot some very clean hitters of the ball who really got going."However, he tried to look on the bright side, particularly their stubbornbatting which had seem them bat out the full 50 overs, Lefebvre leading theway with an unbeaten 32."I was pleased that we batted the full fifty overs, which was an improvementon our earlier game – we have to look for the positives and that was one,"he said. "Hopefully, next time, we will also score some more runs."He defended his decision to bat first: "The wicket was flat and I justthought we had to be positive and try to get 180 or so on the board. Thebatsmen have to take some responsibility by batting first. As players youcan run but you can’t hide."Although Netherlands lost both their games by massive margins, Lefebvreargued that it was essential for his side to play as much competitivecricket as possible."There is a big gap between the major and minor cricket nations but you don’t solve the problem by not playing each other," he said. "The minor nationshave to compete at this level to improve. There is a lot of hard work to bedone."Pakistan captain Waqar Younis was happy with the performance of the toporder, claiming that the attitude of the players was better than during theSri Lanka game."I thought the body language was a lot better in this game than the lastmonth or so and the boys were more keyed up although the opposition wasdefinitely weaker," he said."I am glad that we have started to play better. This may not be a big winbut it’s a positive with so much serious cricket coming against Australiaand South Africa."Pakistan will now remain in Sri Lanka for the forthcoming Test seriesagainst Australia, which is to be played in Colombo and Sharjah. Pakistanwill be without key players, including Inzamann-ul-Haq and Yousuf Youhanawho need surgery for long-term injuries, and Wasim Akram and Saeed Anwar whoare keen to take a break.Waqar appeared supportive of their decision to rest: "We don’t want to burnout these old heads in the team. We have a lot of serious cricket coming up,especially in South Africa and we want to be fresh."
