The former England legspinner, Ian Salisbury, has announced his retirement from first-class cricket in order to pursue a coaching role at his old club, Surrey.Salisbury, 39, made his first-class debut in 1989 and played 15 Tests for England but his 20 wickets cost 76.95 each. He started with Sussex before moving to Surrey in 1997, for whom he took 368 wickets. He then moved to Warwickshire in 2007 and last summer picked up 31 wickets at 27.90.”Following discussions with Ian over recent days, the club agreed that Surrey could approach him in connection with a new role in their recently revised coaching structure,” said Ashley Giles, Warwickshire’s director of cricket.”After a good season in 2008 Ian’s contribution to the Warwickshire squad will be missed, but in all honesty we did not wish to stand in his way when such a good opportunity became available.”Salisbury replaces Nadeed Shahid as Surrey’s second XI coach who today left the club after 15 years at The Oval.”Surrey are a huge club and I want to be a key part of making them the most successful team,” Salisbury said. “In the last decade I was part of a largely homegrown side that enjoyed huge success and in my role with the second team and Pemberton Greenish Academy I look forward to working with the club’s exciting young players to create a new generation of Surrey greats.”Gus Mackay and Chris Adams have put together a top class cricket management team and I am very excited to be a part of it.”

Speaking live on air to CMIT TV, the Italian reporter has revealed that Spurs are currently in talks with Vlahovic’s representatives, not Fiorentina, over a possible move to N17.

In another twist, Camelio has hinted that an agreement on personal terms was ‘probably found’.

“The team that is on Vlahovic now, not surprisingly, is Tottenham,” he explained.

“They are talking to the player’s entourage and not to Fiorentina. The economic agreement was also probably found.”

The Verdict: Promising claim…

If Spurs have found an agreement on personal terms already, three months before the January transfer window, it would gift Fabio Paratici and co a big advantage in the race for his signature.

The 21-year-old is one of the world’s most promising forwards and Tottenham will face big competition for his services – with the likes of Manchester City also linked.

Rangers chief Ross Wilson dipped into the market to bolster Steven Gerrard’s squad with a number of additions over the summer.

The Gers attempted to improve their squad after winning the Premiership last season to give themselves the best chance of retaining their crown and keeping their rivals at bay, with Juninho Bacuna, John Lundstram, Fashion Sakala and Nmandi Ofoborh all coming in.

Gerrard’s side are now top of the table after eight games and lie six points clear of Celtic, having won six of their matches in the top flight this term.

The only summer signing on whom they invested a transfer fee was central midfielder Bacuna. Rangers paid a reported £2.07m for his services and he has shown glimpses of what he can offer in recent weeks after working his way into first team contention.

He came off the bench in Rangers’ last match against Hibernian and impressed with his cameo. As per SofaScore, he completed 100% of his long pass attempts, won all of his aerial battles and created one chance whilst completing 93% of his passes. This shows that he was efficient and able to provide quality despite only being on the pitch for 11 minutes.

The midfielder joined the Gers from Huddersfield, where he made a name for himself in England after leaving Dutch side Groningen in 2018. At the time of his transfer out of his native Netherlands, his market value according to Transfermarkt was just £1.35m.  He then went on to play 107 times for the Terriers, scoring 12 goals and setting up nine, whilst also playing 21 games in the Premier League.

By the summer of 2019, his market value had risen to £3.15m and, at the time of writing, it currently stands at £4.5m. This means that his valuation has soared 233% since his move to Huddersfield in 2018, with the 24-year-old showing positive signs of growth as a player in recent years.

Wilson has, therefore, pulled off a masterclass with the signing of Bacuna by getting him at the perfect time. For starters, the £2.07m Rangers are said to have paid for him is less than half his current market value, which suggests they picked up a bargain, but he also has scope to improve further.

Bacuna could be a player who is able to flourish at Rangers and further enhance his reputation in the game over the next couple of years. Take Ryan Kent as an example – his value has increased 697% since his permanent transfer to Ibrox in 2019, showing how he has been able to take his game to the next level under Gerrard.

If the former Huddersfield gem increases by the same percentage in the next couple of seasons, then he would be worth roughly £31m, a staggering bump up from the £1.35m at which he was valued upon his arrival in England. Of course, there is no guarantee that he will develop at the same rate as Kent, but his career suggests that the best is yet to come and Rangers could profit from that on and off the pitch in the coming years, which is why his signing came at the perfect time.

Speaking to Football Insider, financial expert Maguire claimed the Elland Road expansion could help Leeds catch up with English powerhouses such as Liverpool and Manchester United, but stressed that it won’t happen immediately:

“It would help Leeds compete with the top six a lot better than at present.

“But, if you take a look at the top four they would still be some way ahead. Manchester United are at £600million, Liverpool are around half a billion and so are Man City.

“Spurs get £120million-a-year from their new stadium alone. It would allow Leeds to compete with the other ambitious clubs though.

“Revenue of £250million would allow them to compete with the likes of Villa, Everton and West Ham. Big stadiums do not necessarily turn into big bucks. You have to get the pricing right. Will it help? Yes. Will it help them breach the top six clubs? No.

“Leeds United are not going to be having commercial revenues of £150million in the way that Man United, Liverpool and Man City have.

“That is a gap that can only be bridged over a longer period of time.”

Whenever you are representing Australia, if you have a clouded mind on anything at all then you are not going to play your best cricket.”Ponting said he had not heard any talk within the team about the IPL. “We know that we’ve got a lot of guys coming out from Australia who will be arriving in South Africa very soon to start their preparations for the IPL,” he said. “The moment I hear any of that stuff creeping in, it will be addressed.”Australia are currently ranked No. 2 and will try to reclaim top spot in the one-day rankings over the next two weeks. “They will be the motivating factors for us, nothing to do with the IPL,” Ponting said. “All the money and contracts have been sorted anyway.
