Newcastle want to keep Allan Saint-Maximin

A major Newcastle United transfer claim has emerged on Allan Saint-Maximin’s future…

What’s the talk?

The Daily Mail reporter Craig Hope has revealed that Eddie Howe is not keen to cash in on the French winger ahead of the 2022/23 campaign.

The journalist has admitted that the club are not completely opposed to selling him if the stars align this summer, but the preferred scenario ends with him remaining at St. James’ Park.

Hope Tweeted: “Why would NUFC consider selling Allan Saint-Maximin? Primarily, an offer of circa £50m would be considered if it meant strengthening significantly elsewhere (striker is priority) & staying ahead of spending rules. But Eddie Howe would prefer to keep him.”

Supporters will be buzzing

The Toon faithful will surely be buzzing with this claim as it suggests that the attacker is likely to stay at the club beyond the end of the next transfer window. If Howe wants him to remain on Tyneside then it is logical to think that PIF will not sell him unless they can replace him with a significant signing – which could alleviate any concerns about selling a current star.

Supporters will want him to be playing in black and white next season as he is an exciting players to watch out on the pitch. He gets the fans off their seats with his incredible dribbling ability as he glides past the opposition in an attempt to create openings for himself and his teammates.

In the Premier League this season, he has completed 4.3 dribbles per game and converted that into five goals and three assists. He has also delivered 1.4 key passes per match as he has been a constant creative threat on the wing, providing the likes of Chris Wood, Joe Willock and Ryan Fraser with opportunities to score.

At the age of 25, he also still has room to grow and develop as a player. Howe can work with him on the training pitch to help him gain more consistency in his end product to help improve his goal and assist numbers, with the Frenchman having plenty of time on his side to do so.

This, along with how exciting he is in the present, is why fans will want to keep him at St. James’ Park for the foreseeable future. Therefore, they will be delighted to read that the head coach’s primary aim is to avoid selling him this summer.

Shah signs off in style

Former England batsman Owais Shah marked his final one-day appearance for Middlesex with an unbeaten half-century that helped steer the Panthers to a comfortable seven-wicket Clydesdale Bank 40 win over Derbyshire at Lord’s.The 31-year-old, who learned on Tuesday that he would not be offered a new contract, showed Middlesex supporters what they will be missing next year by playing a watchful knock that sealed his side’s third win of a disappointing campaign with 11 balls to spare. After the early loss of England Test captain Andrew Strauss for seven, the left-hander had his off stump pegged back after playing back to a Graham Wagg off-cutter, Middlesex marched toward victory with a second-wicket stand of 127 in 20 overs between Scott Newman and Shah.Newman, dropped on 38 when Wes Durston downed a stinging overhead catch at mid-wicket off a rasping pull shot, was just 10 short of his second century in this season’s competition when his 89-ball stay ended. Aiming to drive through the covers against off-spinner Jake Needham, the left-hander mistimed his back-foot force to give Wayne Madsen a comfortable catch to short cover and make it 139 for two.Having been content to play second fiddle hitherto, Shah upped his tempo after Newman’s departure to reach his second CB40 half-century of the campaign from 85 balls and after two hours at the crease.Needham struck again to have Dawid Malan (8) well held at slip by Jonathan Clare off an edged late cut but Shah, who is being linked with a move to Essex, stood firm to finish on 58 not out as Gareth Berg (21 not out) hit the winning boundary. After crumbling to 32 for 3 inside seven overs, the Derbyshire innings was underpinned by 19-year-old Chesney Hughes with a top- scoring 64 from 59 balls. Returning to the scene of his first-class debut here at Lord’s in May, Hughes batted with poise and power beyond his years to hit six fours and a six, pulled into the Mound Stand of Tim Murtagh, during his entertaining stay.Having been invited to bat first, the visitors lost Dan Redfern (9) to the 13th delivery of the match when he drove on the up against Murtagh only to pick out Berg at backward point.England paceman Steve Finn, having been named as the Cricket Writers’ Club young player of the season in London last night showed his class with two wickets in the space of four balls – Greg Smith (5) and Durston (0) both caught behind – on his way to figures of 2 for 40.Derbyshire fought back with a fourth-wicket stand worth 82 in 15.5 overs between Hughes and Madsen, the latter contributing 39 in an hour-and-a-half and with only one boundary. The departure of Hughes, who drove straight to mid-on against left-arm spinner Tom Smith, sparked a secondary collapse with Smith to the forefront with three for 26 from his eight, tight overs. He bowled Steven Adshead and then ended Madsen’s stay by enticing his down the pitch and turning one past the bat to give John Simpson a simple stumping. Wagg’s unbeaten 48 from 53 deliveries just about ensured the Falcons batted through their overs but Middlesex found the asking rate of 4.9 an over for victory well within their compass.

Impossible to clean cricket completely – Hayden

Matthew Hayden thinks cricket will always have a gambling problem•Mongoose

Matthew Hayden, the former Australian opener, has said it is practically impossible to completely eradicate corruption from the game of cricket.”The investment the game places in protection strategies to mitigate against corruption is minuscule compared to the vast geographic areas the game is played in and the level of illegal gambling activity,” Hayden told the . “It really is a runaway train.”Hayden said the only the way to counter the threat of gambling was for every individual player and administrator to decide to personally uphold the integrity of the game. “We play a great game, and as players we are honoured to uphold its integrity as a product.”Former Pakistan wicketkeeper Rashid Latif, who testified against some of his team-mates before Justice Qayyum’s commission, said the ICC’s Anti-Corruption and Security Unit (ACSU) was a toothless body that could not be counted upon to uncover fraud within the game. “The ACSU does not have the right to conduct raids or arrest people, what they only do is to ask players to avoid suspicious people.”The ACSU was formed in 2000 in the wake of the match-fixing scandal that ended former South African captain Hansi Cronje’s career. Its main purpose was to help ensure there would be no repeat of the Cronje case but Latif says it has largely failed in this regard.”These ex-policemen [ACSU officials] may have been very good in their field, but cricket is a different ball game altogether and only a cricketer can see an irregularity during a match.”

Wolves: Hirving Lozano set to leave Napoli

Former Wolverhampton Wanderers target Hirving Lozano looks as if he will be available to sign in the summer transfer window.

What’s the talk?

That’s according to a report by Italian publication La Gazzetta dello Sport (via Get Italian Football News), who claimed that, with Napoli on course to sign Dinamo Batumi winger Khvicha Kvaratskhelia this summer, the Mexico international could be put up for sale by the Serie A title challengers.

This could see Jeff Shi reignite his interest in the 26-year-old, with Calciomercato reporting back in the March 2020 that Wolves were one of three Premier League clubs – alongside West Ham United and Everton – contemplating a move for the former PSV Eindhoven starlet.

Furthermore, Lozano himself appears to be open to a move away from the Diego Armando Maradona Stadium this summer, with the forward revealing in November: “The truth is that I would like to go and play in another club, bigger.”

Better than Ocampos

With Bruno Lage looking as if he could experience something of a mass exodus in the wide attacking positions of his Wolves squad at the end of the current campaign, it would appear a very wise move for Shi to revisit the possibility of signing Lozano this summer.

Indeed, with Francisco Trincao recently revealing that he does not want to remain at Molineux beyond the completion of his season-long loan deal, Adama Traore looking certain to move onto pastures new this summer and Paris Saint-Germain plotting a move for Pedro Neto, Lage could well be left with only Daniel Podence and Hwang Hee-chan as options on the flanks ahead of next season.

While it is true that Lozano has somewhat struggled to live up to his club-record €42m (£35m) transfer fee over his two-and-a-half year spell in Naples, the Mexican has nevertheless shown in flashes that he is still a player who boasts a huge amount of talent.

Indeed, over his 32 Serie A appearances last season, the £31.5m-rated winger was in deadly form for Gli Azzurri, bagging 11 goals, registering four assists and creating 10 big chances for his teammates, along with taking 1.8 shots and making 1.1 key passes per game.

These returns saw the £112k-per-week attacker, who journalist Bolarinwa Olajide dubbed a “sensation”, average a highly impressive SofaScore match rating of 7.04, ranking him as his club’s seventh-best player in the Italian top flight.

As such, with the futures of Trincao, Traore and Neto all appearing to be somewhat up in the air at present, and with goalscoring being something of an issue for Wolves this season – with Lage’s side finding the net just 33 times in the Premier League – a swoop for Lozano could well be the answer to the Old Gold’s problems.

Furthermore, with Sevilla reportedly demanding an eye-watering €90m (£75m) in order to part ways with Wolves’ target Lucas Ocampos this summer – a player who has registered one direct goal contribution for every 208 minutes of football played for Sevilla, compared to Lozano’s record of one direct goal contribution every 160 minutes at Napoli – it is clear to see that the Mexican would be a signing who represents much better value for money.

Avaliação do trabalho

Eu respeito a opinião do Dorival.

Estamos fazendo bom jogo.

Hoje o time joga apoiado, muito diferentemente. Vamos continuar implementando as coisas aqui.

Leeds: Jesse Marsch eyeing Chris Armas move

Leeds United manager Jesse Marsch could look to bring Manchester United assistant Chris Armas to Elland Road this summer, according to Phil Hay.

The Lowdown: Armas profiled

The 49-year-old worked under Marsch at New York Red Bulls, serving as his assistant for 151 games.

[web_stories_embed url=”https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/web-stories/latest-leeds-united-news-42/” title=”Latest Leeds United news!” poster=”https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/04/cropped-2022-03-10T184055Z_1834933207_UP1EI3A1FW561_RTRMADP_3_SOCCER-ENGLAND-LEE-AVA-REPORT-1-scaled-1.jpg” width=”360″ height=”600″ align=”none”]

Armas, labelled as a ‘winner’ with ‘infectious positivity’, has since gone on to manage Toronto and has been at Old Trafford under Ralf Rangnick since December.

His services in Manchester may no longer be needed after Erik ten Hag was announced as Manchester United’s new manager, and it looks as if Marsch could take full advantage ahead of his first full season in charge.

The Latest: Hay’s claim

Hay shared a story on The Athletic on Saturday morning, looking at Leeds’ U23s following a record PL2 attendance at Elland Road on Friday night.

Within his report, he claimed that Marsch looks set to make further alterations to his backroom staff this summer, revealing Armas is under consideration for a permanent post.

The Verdict: Makes sense

The pair know each other well following their time back in the USA and Marsch is clearly a fan of Armas, so a reunion in Yorkshire appears to be a shrewd move.

Marsch has already brought Franz Schiemer and Cameron Toshack to Thorp Arch, while Mark Jackson has been promoted from the U23s, so Amas could be the missing piece in the backroom staff jigsaw.

Hopefully, Leeds will be preparing for a first full season under the American as a Premier League side, which could persuade Armas to remain in England.

In other news: Phil Hay: Marsch now eyeing Leeds move for ‘quality’ rising star alongside Aaronson.

Shahzaib Hasan, the 20-year-old Karachi Dolphins opening batsman, and fast bower Wahab Riaz have been added to Pakistan’s one-day and Twenty20 squads for the series against South Africa which starts October 26. The inclusions come after the pair’s outstanding performance in last week’s domestic Twenty20 competition, and swelled the size of Pakistan’s limited-overs squads to an unusually large 17.There have already been several controversies over the team selection for the South Africa tour. When the squad was initially announced earlier this month, no captain was named, and a day later Misbah-ul-Haq was surprisingly put in charge of the Test side. Then, coach Waqar Younis and limited-overs captain Shahid Afridi complained that the selection panel had not consulted them before picking the side.Chief selector Mohsin Khan said the pair was included on the back of their performances in last week’s Faysal Bank domestic Twenty20 competition. “Both Hasan and Riaz were outstanding in the Twenty20 national event so we recommended their names, which were approved by Pakistan Cricket Board chairman Ijaz Butt,” Mohsin said.Riaz, a 25-year-old who plays for Lahore Lions, was already in the Test squad, having impressed during the series against England, with a five-wicket haul on debut at The Oval. He was the best bowler in the domestic T20 event, helping Lahore to the title with his ten wickets at an average of 7.70 and a miserly economy-rate of 4.12. He was in the Twenty20 side against England as well, but hasn’t played ODIs since June 2008.Shahzaib also had a superb Faysal Bank T-20, topping the run charts with 281 in four matches, including a hundred and two half-centuries, at a strike-rate of 169.27 to steer Karachi to the finals. He first came into the spotlight during Pakistan’s successful World Twenty20 campaign in 2009 but has struggled to cement his place.Pakistan are currently having a week-long training camp at the Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore and are scheduled to leave for the UAE on October 24.

– Ainda buscamos nomes pra Copa Libertadores, esperamos nessa semana algumas novidades – completou.
